“I didn’t know until this trip that surimiage (fried fishmeal) is also a Nagasaki delicacy.”
We had already tried champon and saraudon, the two famous dishes of Nagasaki, and we had planned to visit the restaurant that invented both dishes in the evening, so we wanted to try something different. We wandered around and finally settled for a restaurant specializing in local seafood. I ordered... their Nagasaki-kou (meaning Nagasaki Port and also the name of this restaurant) lunch course which was priced at 1,058 yen. The menu is composed of local sashimi, fried fishmeal, a side dish, rice, pickles and miso soup. I didn’t know until this trip that surimiage (fried fishmeal) is also a Nagasaki delicacy. The sashimi was good and so was the surimiage. I thoroughly enjoyed the lunch. Great value for money. The only problem for non-smokers is that they allow smoking in the restaurant.

“A Great Grilled Aji”
We ate at the location conveniently located near the JR train station. A good spot for a bit of sashimi; maguro don and kaisen don in our case. We also had a nice local sake recommended by the waitress. The real treat though was the grilled aji which was fantastic!

“The location at the harbor is really great, good sea food”
this restaurant has three locations, this is review on the one located at the Dejima wharf. In any other country a fish restaurant at a prime location at the yacht harbor with good views and a nice terrace would be so crowded that there never is place. However, this is not the case in Nagasaki, wher...e there are only at the most ten restaurants at this location and still place on the terraces. Although some already close for diner at 7.30. Luckily this restaurant is open somewhat later. They serve very good sashimi and sushi. Beer, whine and various other drinks are available. It is reasonably priced and fast service.

“Not fancy, but it's quite all right for quick and inexpensive lunch”
"Kaisen Ichiba Nagasaki-kou" (Seafood Market Nagasaki Port) has three restaurants in Nagasaki and this one is across from the JR Nagasaki Station in the restaurant district. The other two restaurants are at the Dejima Wharf and the Douza-machi. They have a menu with colour photos with English (pri...nted a little too small for comfort, but functional), so it's reasonably easy to order what you want. For simple lunch, the selection ranges from US$8 to US$20. With a glass of beer you could have a decent lunch for US$15. We saw many local people having a quick lunch by spending no more than US$10 per person. I'm not sure if the Dejima Wharf restaurant has the same pricing structure as it is really for tourists. Please remember these restaurants turn to be more like Japanese-style "pubs" than restaurants in the evening.
