It was totally worth the 30 minutes shuttle from the port our ship was docked in + 15 minutes walk for the best grilled eel I've ever eaten!

At Tenmonkan street, where we found Favori bakery, 100¥ shop, Kagoshima speciality shop and chanced upon this unagi eel shop. It was packed withlocal tourists. The young lady serving us introduced the options in English, basically, box with 4, 3, 2, or 1 piece of eel ranging from 2,760¥ to 980¥. Or... you prefer to have in bowl. (Unlike some shops in Nagoya which allow you to eat with soup poured in - like porridge. This is just one style. We sat on tatami mat, and ordered a box of eel shared among 2 pax. Very kind of them. Kagoshima style, use local eel of Osumi. Waited 30 min for our order to come after getting our seat. So prepare reading materials. Closes at 8pm. Tel: 099-222-1525

This place had the best unagidon ive ever had in my life. The eel was so soft and literally melted in my mouth. I would so go back here if I’m back in Kagoshima next time!

I ordered the small size(梅) of うなぎ重. It came in a box with 2 layers, first layer was grilled eel and lower one was rice. As soon as you opened the box, you could catch the nice aroma of charcoal grilled eel. It's was fatty but amazingly tasty. Grilling eel on charcoal definitely added a smokey flav...our to it. It was so soft that it just melt in your mouth. The rice was perfectly cooked and I just couldn't stop eating with the sauce. All choices came with a miso soup.The small one costs ¥1420 with 2 pieces of eel, middle one costs ¥2080 with 3 pieces and large one costs ¥2760 with 4 pieces. The portion was filling enough even for the small one but I would definitely go for a big one with 4 pieces next time! Why not? When you're there already to enjoy? NOTE: They don't have English menu, but it's simple enough you can make an order without difficulty. To avoid misunderstanding, I suggest just to show them a picture of what you want. TIPS: For those who want to just give it a try but worry you may not like it, you can order Unagi don(eel on rice bowl), they have a mini one costs ¥980

Unagi is great. It's so simple, but it's tasty. I would say it is kinda expensive for essentially a couple of slices of fish, but it is tasty and I would recommend going full house with the 3 pieces of unagi, because some you are there why not just go for it?
