“Excellence in Shinjuku”
Shinjuku isn't noted for its fine dining establishments. There are any number of ramen-ya, chain restaurants, and smoke-filled izakaya. However, if you're looking for something a step above all that, I whole-heartily recommend Kakiden, very close to the East Exit of Shinjuku Station. The atmosphere... was splendid (on the 8th floor) and you even feel somewhat transported to a different time. The food is delicious and a journey unto itself. One caveat, dinner can be a bit pricey, but I feel, for a special occasion, it is well worth it.

“The art of traditional Japanese fine dining”
Despite being in the heart of Shinjuku noise, Kakiden offers truly authentic Japanese cuisine backed by hundreds of years of Tea Ceremony tradition. Kaiseki was originally not a Japanese full course dinner, but rather a prelude to the cup of tea - the climax of the Tea Ceremony. Everything, includin...g sake, is offered so that the Tea could be enjoyed the most. Trends or fashon has little meaning, but only the best of the best that survived the test of time are offered. Not only the food, but service is also the important element of omotenashi, or hospitality. Perfect for those seeking for the ultimate experience.

“Kaiseki”
Very pleasant, well established restaurant on the east side of the Shinjuku Station. Very difficult to find (in our opinion) as it is located on one of the upper floors of the building. Recommend to research the exit of the train station if one is not familiar with the area and on foot. Although, re...grettably, we arrived very late to our dinner reservation (a huge faux pas in Japan) we were nonetheless greeted in a friendly and hospitable manner. The food, we had a Kaiseki style menu (each course represents a season), and particularly the presentation were outstanding.
