Apart from the beef itself, the food lacked flavour. Even after 2 attempts at fried rice it was bland. The only vegetable we got was asparagus. When you pay $600 for a dinner for 2 you expect to get much nicer food than this restaurant served.

This restaurant was recommended by our tour consultant and we had the special Wagyu beef sukiyaki set menu which we were told was most expensive & best-loved in Japan. We had our own room & server which likely added to cost (in reading other reviews, we would likely have preferred counter seats). ...My husband kept the bill as souvenir JPY56,800 or CAD$600 for 2 persons which included 1 pea pod, 1/2 asparagus spear, a tuff of sea urchin, 2 small pieces of tuna, & a dollop of white fish for our appetizer. Add to this a small salad & 3 pieces of beef each and voila $600! Oh, we also shared 1 flask of sake. If you want better kaisekI, avoid Ginza or wait until Kyoto. We had 3 other kaisekI meals during our 18-day journey. One was 12 ample courses and another, which was the best Japanese food we experienced (Wanosato Ryokan), and they were both less than 1/2 the price with much better ambience. The Okahan service was very good but wouldn't you go out of your way for this profit margin?

The restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge when I asked him for a place that specializes in Matsukaza beef. It took us a while to find it (the taxi got us close and a local merchant walked us into an alley where the elevator took us to the 8th floor. many signs in Japanese but not in Engl...ish. We would never have found it if not for the help of that young lady (arigato!). We had counter seats right in front of the chef. The menus were in English and the chef spoke English. The menu had 3 set menu options (also a-la-carte) and the three of us chose two different menus. The food, service and the sake were great. They prepared the live shellfish right there on the hot grill in front us (which is not for the weak of heart as they tend to jump around...) The beef was all it was promised to be. moist, and tender and really amazing. nothing I have ever had before. Make sure you book at the tepinyaki grill/BBQ for the best experience. It is not inexpensive but it was a great dinner.

We met three Japanese men by chance in a restaurant whilst visiting Tokyo recently and asked them where the best place for dinner was in Tokyo...they told us without question Okahan. Although we were sceptical as TA has little about it we headed off and found it tucked away upstairs in a small build...ing. We would never have found it if not for the help of a passerby on the street. The entire experience was unforgettable. The food, service and wine was brilliant. Although pricey it is worth ever cent and I would go back the minute I was in Tokyo. Make sure you book at the tepinyaki grill/BBQ for the best experience. Is amazing and I am so grateful we made friends with locals who told us about this delicious hidden gem!!!

Following a Japanese friend's recommendation, we went to this place to try the famous "Matsuzaka beef". Japan is known to have very good customer service, but the service at this restaurant is BEYOND exception for Japanese standards. The day before, we asked our hotel to call the restaurant to help ...us confirm our reservation. Because of that, they knew we are foreigners. They were very considerate, and assigned a teppanyaki chef that spoke a bit of english. Throughout the meal, our chef patiently explained everything to us, and even went out of his way to nicely arrange the dishes for us to take pictures. The Matsuzaka beef was the best I've ever had and the fried rice afterwards was equally tasty.
