After landing in Japan we wanted a quick meal to share between the two of us. We found this place by chance and decided to get a slightly more nicer order of the Maraiton Pork Filet Cutlet in a set with some rice, salad, miso soup and pickles. It was a bit more expensive than the standard tonkatsu b...ut we didn’t mind giving it a try since we were sharing the meal between the two of us. 2730 yen for the set. Best decision ever. The three pork medallions were extremely juicy and delicious! Probably one of the best tonkatsu I’ve ever had. If we ever went back and didn’t mind spending a bit more I would gladly eat this again.

The staff is delightful. They care and do a lovely job. They want to please. My wife had the beef cutlet and I had the pork cutlet. They came with miso soup which had vegetables in it. They started us with most finely shredded cabbage. A very nice dressing. Both the rice and the cabbage were availa...ble with extra portions at no charge. All the ingredients were very fresh. A very nice lunch. Thank you.

We went to the outlet on the 14th floor of Takashimaya, so am a bit confused if it is the same one that others are reviewing here (someone mentioned 13th floor, and another a more expensive option a floor above). The title seems right but the address is Shibuya (perhaps cos Takashimaya is linked to ...the Shinjuku train station but falls within neighbouring Shibuya city). I would say it was very good, but perhaps not outstanding, hence the 3.5 stars. Our family, including two young kids, absolutely loved the barley rice. But the meat itself was not that impressive for the price. Still, a pleasant dining experience and I particularly enjoyed the fresh sweet ground wasabi that only comes with the Berkshire pork dish. Refills of the wasabi will cost 120 yen.

Our last day in Tokyo and back to Hong Kong inferno, so Tonkatsu was high on our list. It's on the 13 th floor of the Times Square Mall, and it is a nightmare to get there. Elevators are painfully slow and in Japan nobody, that is NOBODY, respects a handicapped person. I use a walkstick and have a b...roken foot so I limp along and need to sit or get "moving" quickly. the special elevator for needy people opens and as is also the case in which very train on every line or class of service, it is packed with youngsters which could run up and down the stairs even without escalators ( which are incredibly scarce in all of Japan). Do they move? Make the effort of making a bit of space for you? That's no Japanese I suppose, they just look away. The only good thing of having a walkstick is that I start poking at them with it, hard if need be, and since they are programmed to avoid confrontation, it usually works.... Anyway, once through the ordeal of getting to the 13 th floor, I walked to the restaurant, and peeped in, to a smiling waitperson, who politely told me to write my name down on the list outside. Long list, but the brief glimpse I got was of at least 2/3 of the tables were empty. Surely enough, not five minutes later we were ushured in. And to a very comfortable table. We ordered the special ( pork and two prawns) and a pork filet dish. Salad, rather good, and rice and soup are free refills. The portions, and we ordered what they call small size, were far too much for two people. But I can only give them 3 stars because the pork and the prawns were very greasy. And they shouldn't be I believe. A bit like if they were partially cooked a while ago, and then just back in the deep frier for warming up before serving. I cannot say I enjoyed the food at this place. It was cheap takeaway quality, and steep prices . Give this a pass if you want good Tonkatsu....

Amazingly tender pork tonkatsu was what I will remember from this visit to this Takashimaya branch in Shinjuku. Having tried numerous tonkatsu meals in Singapore, they do not come close to the excellent value and taste of the tonkatsu here.
