This place, in an old wood house, is perfect to discover a refined and delicious Japanese food. Octopus and Wagyu beef were perfect.

A 70 year old house / restaurant, full of charm and atmosphere. We sat at the bar, though there are seated tables and private rooms. No chef visible, but three young waitresses who were all helpful. An English menu too. We had excellent tofu, terrific sashimi, and the specialities of the house : tun...a with leek and wagu beef cooked over your own hot plate. Some nice eel too. Good choice of sake - recommend the one served in bamboo container. Only dessert was ice cream, and nothing special. Recommended.

The restaurant is known for its Nabe (jap. Hotpot), but offers a delicious menu of local cuisine too. The choice of sake is very good. Personel is englishspeaking and very friendly. I tried 7 plates of the menu and was very pleased by the quality of the food

My wife is Japanese and ate whale meat for lunch when she went to school as a child. While eating whale meat is of course taboo in many countries, it is part of Japanese culture and something I wanted to try. Ichimon's decor is wonderful and it has oodles of character. Unfortunately that was the bes...t part of our experience. We tried two different cuts of nagasu kujira (fin whale) meat prepared in completely different ways - karage style and bacon slices. The former was "okay" (the flesh surprisingly black) and the latter "interesting". The tastiest dish we had was the marinated chicken skin served to us before we began ordering our food - something we didn't ask for, but for which we still paid. Traditional apparently! Exchanging cash for wooden tokens from which payment was deducted as items were ordered from the menu, was quaint but didn't compensate for the rough and ready nature of the service. I always like to try different kinds of local food specialties...and don't regret trying whale meat...but wouldn't rush back for seconds.
