I had dinner with my family at the Kamonka restaurant by chance when I passed culinary street in Ueno station. It is a Hongkong style restaurant. I really like the food that I ate, highly recommend the Xiao Long Bao and the roasted duck skin. Serving us are Vietnamese, who are very enthusiastic and ...dedicated. My family had a happy and delicious dinner at this restaurant.

We chose to have dinner here due to good reviews online. We are a family of 3, with a 4-year old in tow. What seemed like the head waitress put us in a corner outside of the main dining area, with low ceiling and a bright spot light right above our heads, leaving us no chance to enjoy the interior o...f the restaurant, as recommended by other customers. Since we sit in the corner, the waiters didn’t pay much attention to us, and we waited for quite some time before being attended to. The food was mediocre and overpriced. When we asked for water, we only got one glass. When we asked for a spoon and a fork, they didn’t come at all. Instead, before we even finished our food, we got the bill on our table. Then our son accidentally dropped a bowl of white rice. The waiter came and replaced the bill, adding that they’re not charging us for the broken bowl. We were planning to order desserts but the entire visit left such a bad taste in our mouths we scrambled to get out of that place. It’s the most expensive meal we’ve ever had in Tokyo, and it’s the worst service with the most inexperienced waiters. Stay away from this restaurant. There are so many other places to dine in in Ueno.

We went in because of the beautiful design of the entrance and we went out with a bad taste in the mouth. The dishes we received were terrible, the rice was dry like a heated dish in the microwave. The salad was poor. The menu said it included avocado but the waitress added it to us only after we i...nsisted that the menu includes avocado in the dish. The most shocking dish was “kongqing style braise tofu and minced pork with hot sauce”. We told the waitress that the dish was impossible to be eaten and she shook her head sadly not offering to change it. In the end we also went out with an inflated account. The highest we have paid in Japan since we arrived two weeks ago. In short, this restaurant won the title of the worst restaurant we visited in Japan. It's a pity because it dangers the good Japanese reputation.

We enjoyed a light lunch at Kamonka on a rainy day after exploring Ueno Park. A very pleasing experience. Fascinating decor, great service, understood English, and the food was terrific. Most of the menu had English in small print, and the photos helped in our selection. Soft drinks were expensive, ...but you do have to pay for the service and the overhead. Very close to the metro station.
