“Amazing meal”
This was a magical night for a group of four of us... two had been before so we were able to get the room in the back where we were at a counter. Service was beautiful... every movement of our server’s hands was graceful and deliberate. We were in the hands of experts Kouan is a 45 minute train rid...e from Tokyo. The entrance is in an unremarkable alley. The owner/chef has apparently turned down Michelin stars since he doesn't want to lose his regular clientele. Each presentation is magnificent. They served us a sip of a special sake in a clam shell. Inside the clam shell was a beautifully painted picture, each of us with a different exquisite scene. We didn't order anything. They just served one amazing dish after another accompanied with a different saki. The best thing is it only cost $200.00!
