うなぎ・天ぷら近江屋

Stopping off after several hours wandering through Shinsho-ji Temple on a hot August day. The late lunch of Unagi (fresh water eel) was very good and the beer was cold. There were many Unagi restaurants along this street. This one was air-conditioned and provided fans at the table. Service was atte...ntive and there were a mix of tourists and locals.

There are many restaurants that have been here hundreds of years and this restaurant is one of them . We went by car. I asked in front of the restaurant if they had parking, to which the lady ushering in guests answered yes and actually got in my car to guide us to their car park a short walk away. ...I was very pleased with their hospitality. Eel restaurants open as early as from 10 am. We arrived shortly after 11am, and were offered a nice table not too close to the air conditioner. By the time we were served our broiled eels, the large restaurant was fully occupied. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

We were very hungry after a long visit to the temple gardens. By 4pm most places were closed, but we were welcomed here. We had eel and tempura, both delicious. And cold beer too.

After 3 pm, most of restaurants are closed for the afternoon pause, but this restaurant welcomed us with friendly smile. In Narita, eating UNAGI eel is something we were so much looking forward. Luckily we could eat UNAGi but also KOI carp sashimi, too.

Been looking for a place that we could get a vegetarian meal and good traditional fish meal in one place. Staff were very helpful and English language fluent. Great lunch.
