I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. Service is amazing and the food is absolutely fantastic. The only have two sittings per night and a fixed course menu. This is a must visit if you like beef. It is expensive, but worth it!

I love wagyu. When I visited Tokyo last time, I dined at Karyu which was very good but I wanted to try a new place this time. Then I found Niku Kappo Jo which is awarded 1 Michelin star and rated 4.42 (as of 15 September 2019) in Tabelog. I’d dinner there with a friend last night. It isn’t difficu...lt to see why this place is so highly rated. We’re both more than satisfied and agreed that it’s better than Karyu. We’re the only foreigners in the 6-seat counter (I understand there’s a private room for 4). All the staff, especially the chef, were very professional and friendly. The chef greeted us warmly in the beginning and showed us the beef which he said was from Kobe. The menu featured around 14 dishes. We sampled a lot of high quality beef in various cuts made in different ways. All dishes were excellent but the following were particularly memorable : 1. shabu shabu beef with matsutake - The beef wrapped with the highly valued seasonal fungus was so delicious. 2. a mini donburi with lean raw beef, hairy crab, uni, white shrimp and caviar - We’re asked to mix up the whole thing before eating it. Simply divine and I could have easily eaten 4 portions. 3. beef tartare with almonds and mimolette - I loved the different textures and the shavings of mimolette really enhanced the taste. 4. wagyu katsu - Heavenly tender and without a hint of greasiness. There’re also some non-beef items such as sashimi and deep fried amadai which were all very tasty. However, the wine was more on the expensive side. Only 1 bottle of red was less than 10,000 yen. I’ve already recommended Niku Kappo Jo to some friends who will visit Tokyo in December.
