“English speaking Michelin star sushi chef serves up 5 star fish at this tiny 8 seat restaurant.”
Tatsuhito Ota is an absolute master as his craft. As a 3rd generation sushi chef he works at this tiny 8 seat spot just outside the tourist hub in Tokyo serving up some of the most incredible sushi I have ever had the privilege of tasting. This is a no nonsense place as there are only 2 seatings av...ailable 6 and 8:30 pm (I recommend going for the late seating) and the meal is selected by him in the traditional Omakase style. The only people working are him and his wife and his mastery of wine and sake are next level. The meal begins with sashimi and ends with sushi. Tatsuhito’s English is pretty good and he will chat with you as he slices up heavenly pieces of fish. We got reservations on Pocket Concierge about a month earlier and for about $100 a head this is an absolute steal for a Michelin star sushi experience.

“Must-go! Amazing experience!”
We had such an amazing experience here! Chef Ota is truly special! We are from America and he treated us like family! On arrival we were the only 2 in the restaurant and had him all to ourselves for the first half of our meal! The quality is amazing, the value is incredible! I think because this Mic...helin star is further away to get to it scares people away, but we’ll worth the trip! The chef interacts throughout the meal. The entire omakase experience is one we will never forget! Thank you so much!!!

“Amazing Experience”
We had an absolutely amazing time at Kiraku and had an amazing experience. The food was very fresh, very delicious, and overall it was a great dining experience. Even better was that the chef was amazingly kind and engaging, and we enjoyed our conversations with him (he speaks English, which was g...reat as we were from out-of-country). He took the time to explain in great detail the food which was being served, the ingredients, cooking method and how best to enjoy each dish. The sake recommendations were also phenomenal. This dining experience was a highlight for my partner and I during our stay in Tokyo, and we very much wish to come back in the future. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

“True Gem”
3 generations of family operation with over 80 years of history, this place is a true gem in Tokyo sushi restaurants. Although rated with just one star by Michelin, it offers taste and experience that surpasses some of the 3 star establishment, at least in my opinion. Mr. Ota has a small dinner men...u with only 3 options. 8 sushi, 12 sushi or full course omakase (10,000 Yen). I would suggest you go with the full course as for a few more thousand yen, you get 5-6 more appetizers, which includes the Ankimo (fabulous taste). Kiraku makes Edomae style sushi, which is traditional Tokyo style with vinegared rice and aged fish. Mr. Ota only uses the best ingredients, like sea urchin (uni) from Aomori, refreshing and sweet. Mr. Ota speaks good English, and he is very approachable and likes to share his travel stories with his customers. Some of his patrons include local residents, his old time friends, some sake maker who produced the house sake for him (a must try), and some who sent him appreciation letters after emptied the Romanee Conti (good vintage too). Kiraku is easily accessible by Odakyu line. Be aware of the local, express vs semi-express trains as express trains may not stop at Kyodo.
