GINZA kansei

Our first night in Tokyo, after walking around for a while we chose Ginza Kansei, and we were glad we did. The food was great and the staff was very helpful in assisting us in our selections to eat. Glad we made the choice to eat here, next time I get back to Tokyo it will be on my goto list.

We booked this place in good faith on the basis of some good reviews and placing in a list of good restaurants. Big mistake ! We arrived on time and were greeted at the street level entrance that looked good. It was all downhill from here . We were seated in an upstairs room at a big table just for ...us. The room was very austere. A gentleman served us but did not explain anything about the menu. Water was offered and declined. No wine list or menu were provided. "House made" bread was provided with "butter". The "butter" looked and tasted like whipped cream. First dish arrived -sweet small cold fish on a green vegetable sauce. Just passable. Wines were offered after dish was served. All wines were from USA apparently because the owner of this "French" restaurant is a wine importer. We chose a red. It turned out to be the only good thing about this place. Second dish was a plate of incompletely cooked vegetables. That was it ! The tomatoes were described as "tasty but hard". He was correct about "hard". Third dish was a piece of asparagus swimming in a plate of white liquid. It had a single piece of prosciutto lying on top. If there was a chef out the back he or she was operating in "assembly food " mode. At this point we left and offered to pay for the wine but that was declined. The man serving then became rather upset and stated he had been operating "his" restaurant for many years. The implication was our assessment of poor food was incorrect. This establishment may have had a glorious past. Very sad now. I am surprised this place is given a presence on a popular booking site.

This is an interesting little restaurant kust up the street from the Ginza Courtyard Marriott that serves a variety of soba noodle dishes with a French twist. Presentation was very good. Look for the stark white building with wine bottles outside.
