Hubby loves wagyu and it was easy for us to find true certified Kobe and Matsusaka wagyu in many restaurants... but it was really hard to find Yonezawa's wagyu! Believe it's because they want to keep their quality under control, and reading their menu's introduction of feeding their cows snowmelt-mi...neral-rich water and straw from the Mogami valleys of Yamagata prefecture, kind of made us appreciate this wagyu even more!! By the way, also love the way they combined Yonezawa + wagyu = Yonezawagyu. We tried the course set menus which are only available from 4pm. You could choose from three ways of their premium Yonezawa wagyu being served: - Sukiyaki, - Shabushabu, - Steak. Loved that they also stated clearly what you would get namely: - Hiyashiru (tofu with crisp vege and mushrooms for us that day) - Appetizer (marinated beef and a really unique citrusy seaweed soup) - Otoro (the lean beef was still surprisingly tender in a gorgeous pink shade) - Beef, vege, various sauce (+egg for shabushabu) - Rice/Soup/Udon (varies based on which way you chose) - Pickles - Dessert (usually almond jelly in Japanese restaurants) Overall it felt like an attentive fine dining experience but with the cozy ambience of a 12-table small restaurant. Our servers couldn't speak English but the young server was very patient and helpful in Googling translating the advice of best ways of enjoying the wagyu. The sweet female server also gave us a 2023 calendar featuring the beautiful mountains and valleys where their Yonezawa cows were being raised. What a cool experience!

Located in Kitchen street, with other reasonably priced restaurants, OKI offers a great selection of set meals, Tei Shoku, for their lunch guests. Surprisingly in Japan, OKI offers a pure beef hamburger. Most others nearly always have a mixture of pork and beef in the mince. The exceptions are the... US restaurants in Japan. The meal was of excellent quality with the rice also of a higher grade. Service was fast and a waitress came around frequently to refill our tea. They have several tiers of meals. We selected the Yen 1600 hamburger set meal. If you want to go the extra mile, they do have lunch steaks at Yen 7000. Nice decor, attentive staff and great meals.

We had a set dinner, ¥12,000 per person. It was a good set with appetizer, beef sushi, steak, and sukiyaki (3 pieces of beef). Yonezawa-gyu (米沢牛）is one of the top beef in Japan. Unlike Kobe beef, it is much leaner and lighter in beef taste, but still tender. Since it has less fat, it does not creat...e the melting feeling as other fatty Japanese beef. This restaurant is a specialty restaurant serving Yonezawa-gyu. Service is not bad, good value, a good place to spend with friends. Convenient location, inside Tokyo station. I would not say it is a very tasty beef restaurant in Tokyo but provided with its value and location, it is not a bad choice.

If you are a beef lover you must come here! They use Yonezawa beef which is the most tender and flavorful we have ever had. We loved it so much we did dinner two nights. The first night we each had sukiyaki and the second night we had one sukiyaki and a sirloin grill. The wagyu sushi was outstand...ing and transported us to a new level of beef appreciation. The chief and the wait staff were attentive and very friendly. The hostess recognized us from the night before, and soon after, the chef came out to introduce himself and assure we were happy. At the end of our meal, the chef returned to take a photo with us. All in all this was a fantastic experience!

There are very few places that serve Yonezawa beef. Being able to try is precious. Book yourself a table at least a day before, you will not be able to walk in unless you want to eat late, and then that's only a chance. The beef is one of the best. Shabu shabu just melts in your mouth. Chewing ...is optional. It's what you pay for, so worth every Yen. Get yourself some packs of jerky too for memories.
