“Tiny Amazing Gem”
Very small restaurant, very big experience. We had a wonderful time, even though the chef and rest of the staff spoke little to no English. The chef was friendly, and even saw us out the door when we were done, asking us to come again. Every dish was a work of art. Very cozy, 5-star fine dining exp...erience. If you go and don't speak Japanese, be sure to note the picture on the website, as that was the only way we were able to identify the right door to open.

“Wonderful One-Michelin Star Japanese Kaiseki restaurant...Amazing Lunch experience/value.”
Apparently reservations very difficult to come by as this restaurant only has 6 sushi bar seats and one/two tables of 2-4 persons. Location is nearby the Ometosando area. That being said if you can secure a reservation you will be pleased with the Simple but impressive presentation, wonderful ingred...ients and kind-hearted Husband/Wife team as they present Modern Japanese preparations of traditional specialties. Kaiseki/Set menu only with about 15-17 Course all bite sized. Includes Sushi/Sashimi and takes about 75 Minutes for US$65/person before Alcohol. Chef is friendly but limited English. Good luck and enjoy!

“Gentle food, gentle chefs”
Kifuu is a small, discrete restaurant serving beautiful, gentle food. The head chef greeted us behind the counter which seated five in total. There was also a separate room where a group of four were dining. The interior was simple and clean in design. What matters here is the food. We had a lunc...h course served in a kaiseki style where each dish is prepared in a different style. Our personal highlights were ebiimo, a rather rare ingredient, served as a nimono; sawara as sashimi with the skin lightly grilled which opened up a lot of taste; chawanmushi with a ume which made it nice and fresh; an egg pickled in miso and mirin until the texture changed and it became almost cheese-like. You could easily tell how much care the chefs at kifuu put into picking ingredients and treating them with interesting culinary ideas and gentleness. Since everyone in our group spoke Japanese, we were able to have a chat with the chef who explained all about the ingredients and preparation. Beyond all the delicious tastes and textures, it was also a great learning experience. For example, he pulled out an ebiimo to show us what we were eating. Apparantly it is used in fine dining in Western Japan (Kyoto), but recently chefs in Eastern Japan have started to use it in their cuisine. Also, one person in our group was a big fan of uni (me), and another had had it once or twice at cheap sushi places and had avoided it ever since. We discussed that it is a matter of the quality of the uni. A few dishes later, and the chef put a bit of high quality uni on our sashimi plates. I was in uni-heaven and my friend got to understand what is great about the little lump of orange loveliness. All of that combined made this a dining experience to remember. I will have to come back here for dinner some time.

“Excellent Japanese dinner with very professional, nice and friendly staff”
We wanted to celebrate an anniversary in some nice Japanse restaurant and Kifuu was a perfect choice for us. The reastaurant is tiny and the reservation beforehand seemed to be mandatory. We liked very much the interior which is very modern and plain. For our small group we got the own room while th...e other guest were sitting in the fully booked counter. We needed to order the dinner menu beforehand and it appeared to be a truly nice Kaiseki menu with uncounted number of delicious small dishes of fish and seafood. The staff do not speak very much English but is very friendly and polite and was explaining friendly each small dish for us. The value of price of our dinner was truly worth what we paid and absolutely did not leave the restaurant hungry.
