“Excellent Unagi!”
Ate here with family (party of 5) on a Monday. They open at 11am on weekdays but was told my restaurant staff to line up by 10:15am if you want to be the first ones seated. They start handing out tickets that show your queue number around 10:30am and tell you what time to come back. We were able ...to get seated right at 11am thanks to lining up early. While you wait outside, you can see the skilled workers filleting the eel and also cooking it over the charcoal. The food itself was excellent. We ordered the premium (tokujo) unaju (unagi with sauce) and tokujo shirayaki (salted unagi), along with dashimaki tamago (japanese style omelette) and fried shrimp appetizer. The food came out in about 15 minutes. Both unagi were juicy, soft, and fatty. The sauce (tare) that came with the unaji was delicious. The shirayaki was equally as good, as it had a crisper, lighter flavor and was accompanied by pickled plum and wasabi. The dashimaki tamago had a great balance of dashi and sweetness. The fried shrimp was ok as it had somewhat of a bitter taste to it, but it would pair nicely with beer. My family and I were very happy to eat such a great meal here. If you want to be the first ones seated, line up by 10:15am as there was already a line by then on a Monday. To kill time in between, you can visit the temple next door that has a lot to offer and explore.

“Delicious beyond Oishi!”
Unagi and rice was excellent. We were happy to be taken there by our Narita guide as it is a place he only visits once a year with his wife. It’s that special! Price was Yen3000 for an Unajudon which is reasonable for the quality and portion. Will plan a long transit in Narita just to eat here again... if time permits!

“The EEL Meal was Awesome”
For a quick trip in to Narita to visit the Narita-san Shinshō-ji Temple and stopped in here for lunch. Incredible. Just recommend it. Service was great, food was delightful, price was whatever because after 10 days in Viet Nam, it just cost a lot relatively speaking. See the pictures.

“highly recommended”
We had a evening flight back to home from NRT, so we planned a day trip to Naritasan Omote Sando. Narita is known as Town of eels for its freshwater eel supply from Lake Imba. I forgot to ask Surugaya if their Unagi is locally sourced but price and quality is definitely right up there with Nodaiwa... at Tokyo. Restaurant host and waitresses speak English and menu is available in English too. They have a nice ticket system instead of a line up queue. commonly found in other popular restaurants It will tell you the approx wait time so you can visit nearby shops on Omote Sando or Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple instead of stuck at the queue in a hot and humid day. Highly recommended.

“Pricey but Worth It! English-speaking Friendly.”
This place pretty much only sells eel, so if you wanted to try something else, too bad. It might have been a little tourist gimmick, but I did like the fact that the servers were all in traditional Japanese dress. The atmosphere was great, and the food was better. As an English-speaking tourist, t...he restaurant accommodated well for me with a special menu. It takes about 20-30 minutes for the chefs to freshly prepare the meal for you, so do be prepared to wait. Definitely a must-do in Narita.
