AUX BACCHANALES 紀尾井町

A pleasant French style bistro with some outdoor seating and an in-store bakery. It's a bit odd as when you want say a pastry or croissant you have to buy and pay at the bakery counter and take it to your table whereas everything else is table service. decent food and coffee.

Had a great lunch with colleagues here today. The steak frites was delicious and the chocolate fruit tarte was amazing.

We were stayig at the nearby hotel and this was just ourside the Garden Tower exit, we were recommended this from a fellow traveller who had visited here preciously. We ate here several times over the 3 separate visits we had in Tokyo whilst touring to watch the RWC. There are 3 eating areas, outs...ide cafe, inside cafe and a more posher restaurant, we always sat in inside cafe area away from the smokers. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English and French even though they were Japanese, we had the same great waiter on visits and even kept the promo rugby shirt they had in bar for us after the TWC finished which was very kind of him. There were snacks available all day and a few specials from a blackboard, had the lamb a couple of times and was cooked to perfection, they did various omlettes with a massive portion of fries too. The wine was topped to the top of the glass and not just the usual measures. If we are ever back in this are of Tokyo would not hesitate to come here again.

We stayed at the New Otani Hotel, just a 5 minute walk away. We saw the Aux Bacchanales restaurant as we were taking a tour bus back to the hotel. What a find! First of all, the food is excellent. The prices are very reasonable. The service and personality of the wait staff is incredible. And ...it has something for everyone. OK. I guess my review is done. Not quite. We had a big day on our arrival at the New Otani Hotel, just a short 5 minute walk away. We wanted something convenient, relatively inexpensive, and local. Enter this restaurant. It had everything we wanted including a basic, but delicious, French Chardonnay. Being from California and having Chardonnay as our favorite wine, we are what you might call "Chardonnay Hogs". The one this restaurant offered, while certainly not the most incredible Chard we ever had, was what I would call "very drinkable"! And very enjoyable. We didn't want a lot to eat. But we also wanted to ENJOY it. We wanted good service. We wanted a fun and relaxing atmosphere. In other words, we wanted the whole package. And Aux Bacchananales delivered. In fact we enjoyed it so much we went back there again. They essentially have 3 dining areas: one outside, one in the more formal dining area, and the one we ate in which is much more casual in nature. There is something for everyone at this place. The server was as personable as he was efficient. In short, we were delighted with everything about this restaurant, especially the price. I'll bet if you try it you will agree.

It is pretty much as if a bistro has been found, bought, dismantled, and reassembled in Tokyo. To save ourselves a fortune on hotel breakfasts we brunched on a very decent croque madame, and had the steak frîtes on two evenings - perfectly cooked, with a generous portion of crispy fries. Friendly ...staff. We like it.
