Osteria il Faro

Osteria Il Faro in Shirahama is the perfect Italian kitchen. It is unpretentious but warm and inviting. The menu is thoughtful and changes by the season, always including the best of Shirahama seafood and local produce. The chef is a master of his craft, perhaps only to be outdone by the artistry of... the dessert chef. Osteria Il Faro is located just a short jump from the lighthouse at the tip of Chiba's Boso Peninsula, and a meal here is a perfect complement to any tourist's visit to this scenic area. If you have the wanderlust to explore the beautiful Boso coastline, Osteria Il Faro will be on the way, but a meal at Il Faro is worth traveling the extra mile. (Be sure to try the handmade pasta -- but ask for gluten free if that is what you need).

I have been to Osteria Il Faro twice and I will go again, and again, and again. It is a surprise to find such a wonderful Italian food experience right here in this out-of-the-way spot in beautiful Shirahama. I have gone twice for lunch. The menu and well conceived and great value, but the importan...t thing is that the food is absolutely outstanding. Last week we went as a family for lunch. Two of us had the pasta lunch (Yen 1800) and two of us had the more elaborate grilled fish lunch (Yen 3000). The full course offering featured a salad, an assortment of appetizers, pasta, perfectly grilled flounder for those taking the full fish lunch, dessert and coffee. We added in a small pitcher of delightful Sangria. Why is such a wonderful little restaurant here? I don't know, but I am glad I have found it! We will become regulars at this wonderful little restaurant.
