We ate at several Yayoi restaurants in Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo. Every meal was consistently good. Freshly made and healthy. Our teens loved the free rice refills. I loved the fermented cabbage, tofu & miso soup sides, green tea and water refills. Extraordinarily cheap for the quality.... Easy to order at the machines at the front (English menu available). Highly recommend

The pay on machine as you enter system was good providing you knew what you wanted. My family and I went for breakfast, I had a miso aubergine dish. It came with a side of fish, rice, miso soup and tofu. The portion was great value for what it was and there was free refillable rice! A great touch. ... The meal itself was delicious. My family all chose different meals and they were mostly delightful except for the fermented soy beans which had little taste and were slimy but definitely an acquired taste! I would recommend this place as an easy and reasonable priced meal.

Great food for the money. You put your money into a machine, choose what you want, and there deliver it to your table. This was a unique experience for me. Later I realized it was not unique because it happens all over Japan. For dinner we had beer, and the rice and tea you wanted, bean curd, po...rk/vegetables, and great miso soup. Restaurant was filled with locals, which is a good sign. The restaurant was extremely clean and the staff friendly/efficient. Food was excellent at an inexpenive price.

I didn't expect this casual restaurant to serve such good food. I ate here twice just for the beef sukiyaki, which was so mouth-watering. Good price for the draft beer too and I'm glad that they close late. One of the restaurants one has to try when in the Shinjuku area.
