Service in Japan is always good; that is standard. Food is very delicious. They have an extensive sake list.

While the food was relatively good, what gave the 1 star was the fact that we were not told of a 540 yen per pathetically small mouthful of potato salad w a half piece of shrimp which doubled the cost of a late night supper for 2 adults and 2 kids. Cant imagine being charged 2160 for 4 pathetic appe...tizers. If the restaurant had wanted a minimum spend amount or a service charge, we would be happy to order more or agree to the charge. However, this was not done ahead of time. By telling the customers after the meal and charging such ridiculous prices for the appetizers is really akin to cheating your customers. I had a fantastic opinion of the Japanese people to be very civic minded and an honest lot. This experience really tarnished the image of Japan. I believe the owners of Sakagura to be black sheeps while majority of Japanese and all I have met thus far been extremely courteous and honest lot. The owners of Sakagura should really be ashamed of such scam tactics and shouldn't consider themselves Japanese. It is a real shame given the relatively good food and friendly and attentive staff. They deserve better... Overall, a very bad taste in the mouth for first visit to Hokkaido.

We read that Salmon Ishikari Nabe (Hot Pot) is one of the delicacies we should not miss while in Hokkaido, besides crabs and barbecued lamb. So while in Sapporo, we found this shop, which we understand is quite popular with the locals. On our first night, we did not get to eat as we did not make p...rior reservations. Fortunately, we were staying two nights in Sapporo. We decided to make a dinner reservation for the following night. There were five of us and one six year old child. We were given a small private room, which was quite warm. We ordered the salmon Ishikari Hotpot, and another pork hotpot, a large sashimi to share, their specialty beancurd, a mushroom in oil fondue and a wagyu beef tongue sashimi. The food was delicious, the price was reasonable. But we were very eager to get out of the place because the room was very warm, even though it was winter. Recommendation: Pls make reservation.
