“Outstanding Restaurant”
As everyone says this is like going through a small door no more than 4' 6" in height. You take off your shoes and soon it is put away in the shelves with doors. You sit on the floor with a space under the table for your feet to dangle which is nice. Then comes the great food. Sashimi platter, mis...o soup, rice with natto and pickled vegetables; fried gobo, tofu with vegetables, fried salmon, and topped it all with desert of pancakes with green tea ice cream and vanilla ice cream; tofu ice cream and some other type milk cream dessert. All were fantastic! This is an ala carte restaurant so you order what you want to eat. Menu has some english words in translation. After we were ready to leave the staff lined up our shoes at the front. Overall the place was very clean, however this is a smoking restaurant.

“Creative food at reasonable prices!”
I guess you would call this an Izakaya style pub, but to me the interior and food were way better than your average Izakaya. Nice, clean and comfortable low tables with creative menu (regular menu had pictures and English translations, daily specials in Japanese). Everything we had was excellent: M...aguro and salmon sashimi followed by homemade tofu, stir fry cabbage with baby sardines, etc... All excellent quality. We made a reservation to go back before we leave Hakodate! Worth walking down the tiny alley and small entrance to find it! Just a few minutes walk from Goryokakukoenmae tram stop. Some other customers were smoking, but the space must have good ventilation because it did not bother us. I hardly speak any Japanese at all and we managed just fine with the nice staff.
