“Good Chinese in Osaka for over 55 years”
Very good food here, reasonably priced for Osaka. Beautiful dining rooms, fine service, great selection. The fried rice with crab meat was very tasty; the gyoza was even better. Not easy to find! On the 14th floor of Daimaru building, next to Osaka Train Station. 👌 Recommended.

“Good, but overpriced”
We went to this restaurant mainly because most restaurants on the same floor were full. Since we had stopped having shark's fin for environmental protection reason, we did not order any dish that contained shark's fin. As Chinese, we had better ideas about what Chinese dishes were safe to order at... overseas Chinese restaurants. One of the items we ordered was the chicken noodle in clay pot. It was very good! Other food items were just ordinary. Overall, this restaurant was a bit pricy when compared to other Chinese restaurants we had visited in Japan, considering that their food quality, service and environment were similar.

“Shark Fin”
This restaurants speciality in Shark Fin dishes which is why we went . Luckily we got in without a reservation but would recommend you book ahead if you have a larger group as it very popular . There is an English menu so ordering is relatively easy. Clean , great atmosphere and best of all food and... service is of a very high standard.

“Magnificent Ching Ming”
This place is an institution. It operates from the Daimaru store at Osaka Station (14th floor) and has been doing so for 50 years. There are about 6-8 ‘sets’ available or a la carte. We chose the Dim Sum set at about 1600 yen. Comes with about 8 little dishes inc. chicken soup, salad, wontons (shuim...ai) pickles etc and it’s absolutely delicious. Also, a nice touch... the waitress brought us a glass of tea each after removing our trays.

“Hearty home-style cooking in a restaurant setting”
Ching Ming is located on the 14th floor of Daimaru, Umeda. It’s a Chinese restaurant, serving dishes and a fair selection of dim sum; kinda resembles an “atas zi char” (local Singaporean vernacular for homestyle Chinese hawker fare) in my opinion. Being a Chinese restaurant, staff here are fluent in... Mandarin as well. We ordered several dishes (accompanied with rice) to share; like sweet-and-sour pork, omelette and mixed veggies. We also tried two dim sum dishes – the shark’s fin dumpling and the xiaolongbao. Generally, we were quite impressed with their dishes; the flavour and style of cooking is very reminiscent of the local fare we have here in Singapore (hence the zi char reference). The only gripe I have would be the supremely underwhelming xiaolongbao, which tasted sanitised and bland when it is supposed to be packing with flavour =( I thus suggest skipping the xiaolongbao and stick with the dishes instead, which are far more representative of authentic Chinese cuisine.
