京の禅 車 四条烏丸店

Came across this restaurant whilst staying in a nearby & decided to book it for the following night after also speaking to the front desk at our hotel as they too recommended it. The ambience was nice, the staff were young & super friendly & tried very hard to communicate with us in English. We sta...rted with grilled chicken ball skewers, grilled chicken skewers with leek & 2 salads which were all very nice but sadly the rest of our meal fell very short of our expectations so much so that we could not eat the rice dish & the BBQ tataki chicken. Chicken was the restaurants specilaty so we were looking forward to it but it tasted like it had been doused in butane/gasoline or some type of fuel & this same chicken was used to top the rice dish. We assume that this was not what it was meant to taste like & because of the language barrier found it too difficult to articulate that there was possibly something not right with these 2 dishes & so decided to just pay for the meal & leave. It was not cheap

We were walking around the area near our hotel in Kyoto and stumbled across this place. We did not realize its primary cuisine was chicken. It turned out to be a great dinner. There were four of us, and we shared the meal. We started with grilled chicken thighs. Then had a plate of tofu, follo...wed by edamame. The edamame was fresh and excellent, it had some peppery spice on the outside that added a zest to the taste. The tofu and chicken were very good. We also shared Sake and overall had a quite charming evening. To top it all off, our waitress could speak English, which was a pleasant addition to the experience.

We were excited after reading the menu outside but the food lacks flavour, cooking expertise and imagination- the deep fried chicken was soggy, the sashimi chicken chewy, the salads were made with very standard produce and sadly it just didn't stack up- the service was really good and we got the bot...tomless drinks with the set course which was worth it, but given the exceptional produce claimed and niche offers, this was just not as good as other places we had

This is an all chicken restaurant. The quality of the chicken from Miyasaki is exceptional. The charcoal grilled chicken served in a hot plate is out of this world. The chicken tataki served almost raw accompanied with a ponzu, negi dressing is excellent.

We chose the 3000 yen set menu which was pretty tasty. Decent enough food and the waiters easily managed with our almost non existent Japanese. Service was not particularly attentive particularly by Japanese standards and quit extraordinarily they ran out if ramen for the final dish and it was on...ly a 7.30 booking! Char grilled chicken dish was the best.
