We found it casually and without thinking but this place was an amazing surprise! Best high ball we had and also stunning dishes!!! Nothing better than a pic to show the quality!!! Live it and hope to be back agai :)

When You visit Kyoto, want some real Japanese food and drinks you must be there. The diner locates at the calm street just cutting out of the main avenue, Kabura-ya welcomes you with such tasty food and drinks kind of modern Japanese style but succeeds some traditional menu style. This Kaiseki Sty...le Japanese meal has been very popular among such a high class in Japan. Kyoto used to be the place to enjoy food of Kaiseki. Both baked and raw fishes are very fine. Vegetable dishes are served in vary from steamed, baked and fried. Meat dishes are also very tasty with soy and natural salt flavor. You must enjoy the night feelings old capital of Japan. All food menus are very healthy. Many kinds of Japanese Sake brands can be tasted. Reservation will be recommended.

We ended up at this place as a last resort, after finding the more highly rated restaurants fully booked or with a very long wait. The inside was not all that inviting, with heavy smoke smell. They had an "English" menu, but beyond that nobody spoke more than 2-3 words in English. We'd ordered so...me chicken skewers but hey arrived pretty unevenly cooked. Some were pretty badly under-done. The dipping sauces were ok. And it was all pretty pricey, everything considered.
