Excellent in both taste and presentation! Service is top notch. Very impressed by the presentation of the dishes which mimic the soundings including the autumn foliage, morning dew, moonlit phantom, blue starry and checkered garden.

I made a reservation here for my boyfriend and I as we were staying in the area - and the neighborhood is known for basically closing up shop in the afternoon. So, there weren’t a ton of options for dinner. It seemed to get decent reviews so we booked it. This dinner experience was one of the weir...dest dinners I have ever had. The servers were quite nice but that was really the only redeeming quality. First, the service was SO slow, it felt like dinner went on and on. Second, the food was just not good. Many times we couldn’t even eat the food. It just seemed like they were trying to make ‘fancy’ food and tell a story without first thinking of how it tastes. Third, we at first thought it was cool to be in our own room but it was SO quiet, with no other music or noise that we felt that we couldn’t speak loudly or talk normally. Anyways, this dinner was really expensive to not enjoy the food and/or the experience. Would NOT recommend coming here.

I and my wife visited the restaurant at lunch time in June 2018 as a celebration of 5th anniversary of the marriage. I have visited various restaurants in Kyoto where I live. MITATE is absolutely one the best. I really recommend those who want to know the latest Japanese cuisine to experience. Dish...es are based on French cuisine and Kyoto Japanese cuisine. But It will be a great experience to try new cuisine! All the dishes has theme and story. The scenery of dishes is the expression of the story. You can't stop shooting photos. A reservation is quite needed. Weekend dinner, earlier than 2 month. Weekend lunch, earlier than 1 month. Ask the restaurant for weekdays dinner a few days before. I am not sure there are English speaking staffs. 2018年6月に妻と、結婚５周年記念の食事でランチに訪ねました。フレンチと京料理の融合とのことですが、まさにその通りで、むしろ新しいジャンルの料理体験と言えます。 コースには月替りのテーマがあり、全てのお皿や料理がそのテーマに沿って表現されています。とても美しいので、食べるのがもったいないくらいです。 人気店なので予約が必要です。3ヶ月前からの予約が可能で、週末のランチやディナーはできれば1,2ヶ月前からの予約が望ましいようです。平日のディナーは運が良ければ空席もあるようなので、数日前の問い合わせもしてみる価値があります。

This is one of my favorite retaurants in Kyoto. The service and the dishes are just wonderful. If you are a tourist from abroad and want to learn about Japanese sense of aesthetic, this is the restaurant you want to visit. And you will see that Japanese do eat with eyes. Of course if you are a b...ig eater, or just want to satisfy your appetite with lower cost, this isn't the place you want to visit. They serve lunch from about 5000 yen.
