Loved this place! Our hotel recommended it and although we had a tough time finding it down a side street, it was a highlight of our time in Kyoto. Small and local, great ambiance, service, food and drinks. The chef/staff were wonderful. If you can get in you will love it!

We visited this small local restaurant which was just down the road from our accommodation. The restaurant is a small traditional looking building which was absolutely stunning setting for those looking to experience something that’s not too touristy. Upon arrival we were nicely greeted and taken to... a small room upstairs and the menu was explained fantastically given our lack of any Japanese language. Further , one member of our group is gluten-free , which was immediately met with accommodation by the host. The rest of us took the “fusion” set menu - which was absolutely wonderful , with beautiful clean flavours and fantastic traditional Japanese cuisine - with the ponzu chicken being absolutely stunning! The chef further accommodated our Gluten free guest by coming to talk to us and making dishes which suited them - something we very much appreciated! Overall, we had a fantastic time - with the staff making us feel so welcome and the food being the best we had come across in our 4 days in Kyoto. Absolutely recommend a visit!

The chef was amazing and his staff were very hospitable, going out of their way to welcome us. Sea Bream great. Sea urchin and squid were great. You can trust the chef and his menu snd his choices. Braised duck liver was a joy and the braised beef brought me back for second evening.

We were a large group so had the counter space to ourselves. Our travel company had recommended the restaurant and didn't let us down. As a pescatarian I was well looked after. We loved watching the chefs prepare and cook in such a small space and they added to the fun. The afore mentioned plum sake... was very delicious and we all enjoyed the different courses of food.

On Friday night around 8 pm my husband and I were looking for a casual restaurant to eat at. Our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant and he called to book and there was availability right away. When we got there, we were taken to upstairs seating area, but the table right next to us in the s...ame room was smoking. I'm pregnant so I didn't want to sit in that room. We asked for a different seat; however, the restaurant told us that's the only table they had. What's strange is that there were only 2 people seated at the ground floor counter seats and there were about 10 or more seats open. We asked if we can sit there, but they said there were reservations. Honestly, it's hard to believe that there are actually reservations at around 8:30 pm, since most Japanese people eat earlier (I'm Japanese). Plus, when our hotel concierge called to book, there was availability. I felt that they didn't want to let my husband (British) and I sit on the ground floor, since they only wanted Japanese people to sit there. I once again told them I was pregnant so don't want to sit in a smoky area, but the waiter/manager just kept apologizing. We were so furious we left and we'll never come back here again.
