Lovely spot for a fancy meal out!. My family stumbled into this restaurant and while we weren't quite dressed for a special night out, they accommodated us and made us feel quite welcome. The dishes were beautiful and tasty. I loved the bean soup in the super cute pottery. My daughter loved the sp...ecial alternate fruit dessert that they made for her because she is avoiding sugar. They seemed ready to customize. Overall, we loved the meal and wish Kyoto were not so far away so we could go back!

Excellent experience of a French cuisine in Kyoto. Dinner menu is 8.000yen including fish and meat; starting from Amuse bouche, with sorbet in-between... my best cost-effectiveness award. The food was excellent. It emphasizes its use of vegetable but you don't have to be vegetarian. I can suggest ...an improvement in serving wine but the rest was a great experience in a traditional city in Japan.

Have just enjoyed a fabulous meal at Restaurant Shin. Our friend, who speaks Japanese, booked and asked if they could cater for our vegetarian tastes. The chef did this and more. A real feast for the eye and the palette. Give yourself a treat if you are in Kyoto. You will not be disappointed.

Restaurant Shin was recommended to us by our amazing guide Harumi Yamanaka. I'll start with the two things to be aware of: cash only and limited English. Also, we visited in October of 2012; I had totally forgot to write a review. So here it is. That being said, the chef and his staff go out of... their way to make your stay here pleasant. They end up making your meal here AMAZING! The space is very intimate, casual, and comfortable. The customer service is personable but not forced; attentive but not overbearing. The food... the food is what this place is about. We did the prix fixe chef's tasting menu and we were not disappointed. We were actually blown away by the flavors and presentation. This is definitely a fusion of classic French technique and Japanese detail. The flavors are also a fusion of both Western and Eastern ingredients. Restaurant Shin is definitely a place to spend a wonderful time with a loved one, over some beautiful food, fantastic wine, and relaxing ambiance.

We discovered this small restaurant and were very pleasantly surprised. The degustation menu was very deliciouse and fine. The dishes were mostly european but with the japanese flavour. The Chef was very friendly and the servant as well. In spite of the fact that their English was poor , they did t...heir best to make you feel great! That was a great gastronomic experience in Kyoto!
