“Mixed feelings but satisfied”
We were recommended by the ryokan owner to check out this place since we did not opt for dinner for our stay. We made our way there in snowy condition , dressed in the traditional yukata in order to embrace fully into the Japanese spirit for our first meal in this beautiful onsen town. It was less ...than 5 mins walk from our hotel and upon entering into the restaurant , we were warmly welcomed by the owner's wife (I assume). This place resembles a typical Izakaya with high counter on one side and 2 tables in tatami setting on the other. The lady speaks some English and we manage to communicate sufficiently to order our food. Unfortunately , due to the weather condition , some items are not available. I managed to try out my long awaited grill Tajima beef , but winter crab sashimi was not available. Instead , we order the hot pot crab. Didn't like the Tajima beef as it has a very strong "beefy" taste. The crab in hotpot ain't that great too but what turn out to be really good was the rice added into the hotpot (as recommended). It was very tasty due to the broth from the crab. Overall , the experience was satisfactory but not "wow". Price was reasonable and service was prompt and attentive.
