祇園 さゝ木

We went for lunch twice at Gion Sasaki, one time in Summer 2019 and most recent one in Dec 2019. This place has amazingly delicious food and really friendly and polite staffs. The owner, Mr. Sasaki, always made it a point to greet his guests in person and he recommends great sake. In our Dec visit w...e had a gorgeous private room with the most beautiful wooden table we have seen in all the years we dined in Michelin starred places. We really loved this place and the meal was not just a wonderful culinary experience but also a great Japanese culture experience as well. Truly deserved the 3 Michelin star rating. We will definitely make a point to come back to this restaurant when we are back to Kyoto next time.

Modern kaiseki - a bit less stuffy and elaborate than what you’d get in a place like Hyotei. We were the only non-Japanese at the counter. The chef seemed a bit perplexed when he realised we didn’t speak Japanese. But one of the chefs helped to translate and he was quite friendly for the rest of the... meal. He’s a bit of a performer and liked to crack jokes. The dishes weren’t mind blowing but very well thought out and tasty. There were excellent recommendations from the chef on sake pairings. Make sure you’re on time! The entire counter starts the meal at the same time.

お昼のランチコースに3度ほど来店。 8000円＋税ですが夜が30000円越えなことを考えると非常にリーズナブル。 格式は高いがフレンドリーなスタッフ、カニ、ノドグロ、トロなど高級食材もあり、丁寧に調理されており文句のつけようがありません。 3度も来店時の締めに出てきた親子丼が圧倒的な美味しさ、その後のデザートも毎回3品以上あり、非常に満足。 次回は夜に行こうと思いますが、中々予約が取れません。 祇園ではまだ10店ほどしか高めの割烹料理は行ってませんが、今のところは不動の1位です。 Been to this place 3 times for lunch. 8000JPY+Tax, very... much reasonable considering 30000+JPY for dinner. Ambience with class, but yet friendly staffs, great quality fatty tuna, crabs, rosy seabass etc... really carefully prepared with intricate presentation, really can't complain. I've been to only about 10 classy restaurants in Kyoto, but so far, this place is by far the best. Next time I'm gonna try dinner but I gotta keep my fingers crossed for reservatoin.

We have been lucky enough to reserve a spot for lunch at this exquisite restaurant. The meal was served at the counter, so we could watch the staff preparing the dishes. Price for lunch is fixed, the meal is served at the same time for all the guests. The cuisine is typical Kyoto style. Fantastic!

Visited Kyoto late June 2018 and we were very lucky to have been accommodated for a weekday lunch despite not having any reservation. The restaurant was full and they found a way to accommodate us. Excellent customer service. Service was great. Food was delicious. All the courses were nicely pre...pared. Best to go with reservation, to avoid disappointment.
