ITALIAN QUATRO 京都駅前店

I went here for dinner one night, solo. I was sat and order taken fairly quickly (no problem, I knew what I wanted). As the food was prepared and delivered, I noticed that the chef making the plate is who brought it to the table - an excellent touch. Night 1. Food was excellent. I had the burrata ...and a fresh fettuccine with mushroom sauce. It was incredible. I wanted to order dessert but no one seemed available to help. I waited about 15 minutes and decided to just get up and pay the bill. Then everyone was interested in me. Night 2. Better service but I ordered the gnocchi and the portion was so small and the sauce was so watery -- it was a sincere disappointment. In the end, I recommend going -- just understand it won't be perfect.

We still haven't realised places are small and you should book in advance at least towards the weekend if you're looking for some special place. Our goal for the evening was to get some good red wine. Focusing on the top rated French or Italian restaurants did we finally on the door to this Quatro... and luckily they had one table left. No hesitation to grab the table since smell from the kitchen was nice and atmosphere was relaxed. And we got a Nero D'avola and we where all set. We had Pasta carbonara, beef cheek with mashed potatoes and a spaghetti with cherry tomatoes. Even thought all delivered at different times to us was taste excellent, we fully enjoyed our wine. Service is not Italian since you miss the jovial, easy goes Italian touch. We don't speak Japanese hence do we not know if they had the touch or not. Judging from the extra Parmesan we asked for are we convinced they did not have it, two small pcs. All good until time to check out! We simply asked them to split the check 50/50 to our credit cards, like we done the 4 days we been in Japan. Nowhere else had this been a problem. Even in places with zero English have everyone been very accommodating. Not here. Waiter even turned to be rude throwing our cards and check on the table! Maybe this was the Italian rich showing after all. If it was did we miss it. After long debacle with no customer friendly attitude did they split the bill.

This is a nice little restaurant - recommend booking if you want to go at a weekend. We didn't but went back around 9.30pm when it's a lot quieter. All of our food was really nice (tomato and basil pasta / Japanese black beef) but portion sizes were a little smaller than most places we age in. The f...resh bread was also really good. All good on the service front - would go again if we came back.

We were in need of some comfort food and came across Italian Quatro and as the menu looked OK we ventured inside. The greeting was warm and friendly, the staff very helpful and accommodating and the place nice and clean. We ordered some garlic bread along with two simple Italian dishes and wine an...d were offered the chance to have each dish brought out separately so that we could share each dish which was a good idea, however we declined but were tempted. When it arrived, the quality of the food was excellent, just the right amount and hot. We thought it was on a par with any Italian restaurants at home and the pricing was similar so we were very pleased. I'd recommend this as a stop off if you wanted a change from Japanese cuisine and especially if you need it in a rush. The bar was full of couples taking their time so it is obviously a restaurant used by locals which is always a good sign.
