The place is a bit hidden from the street and we were surprised to see how nice the interior was. Boiling tofu on own table while sitting on tatamis was good experience and the crew was really helpful and theor English was perfect. We were there during lunch time. Not the cheapest option around but ...worth trying if can eat tofu.

あまり悪いことは書きたくないのですが、久々に酷すぎる接客を受けたので口コミを書くことにしました。 昼の混雑時に、「予約をした上で」来店しました。予約時間から40分経ってようやく最初の一品を出すほどの遅さ。あまりにも遅すぎるので30分経った時点で女将に声をかけると、「最初から提供に時間がかかるって言ったのに」と逆ギレされました。後ろの席にいたご家族も、あまりにも提供が遅いので女将に声をかけていましたが、女将は、「せっかちなお客さんやね。」、「うちは忙しい店なんです。」、「予約もしてないんですから待つのは仕方ない」と堂々と客に向かって言っていて、ドン引きでした・・・。 確かに歴史が古い老舗なのかも...しれません。某有名脚本家がオーナーとのことで、殿様商売でもやっていけるのでしょう。ですが、このような意識の女将がいるお店に二度と行きたいと思いません。 肝心のお料理が感動するほどおいしければ、まだ我慢もできたのでしょうが、味はまあおいしいですが、いたって普通です。このお店でなければ食べられないようなことは決してありません。お料理はお店の雰囲気込みで味わうものと思っていますので、その意味ではかなりの低レベルでした。 お店の雰囲気も雑然としていて、衛生的ではありません。廊下に先客の食べた後の食器がずら～と並べてあったり、染みだらけのメニュー、階段の幅半分を占めるほど雑然と並べてある色紙。 お手洗いも昔ながらかつ狭くて暗い。 芸能人の方の来店も多いようですが、皆さん、この雰囲気と衛生感に納得されているのでしょうか・・・。 外国の方がこの店に来たらと思うと、これが日本のおもてなしだと思われると、日本人としてとても恥ずかしいです。 昨今は歴史はなくてもおいしくて、丁寧な接客をしていただけるお店がたくさんあります。古いだけのお店はもう結構です。 他に嫌な思いをする方が増えないことを願って、口コミさせていただきました。 I don't want to write too many bad things, but I decided to write a review because I have had too bad customer service here first in a long time. I came to the restaurant "with a reservation" during the busy lunch time. The service was so slow that the first dish was finally served 40 minutes after the reservation time. When we approached the proprietress after 30 minutes because it was so slow, she was upset and said "I told you from the beginning it would take time to serve". The family seated behind us also called out to the proprietress because the food was being served so slowly, but she replied, "You are an impatient customer, aren't you?" She said, "We are a busy restaurant." She said to the customer, "You don't have a reservation, so it's no wonder you have to wait", which was a bit of a shock. It may be a long-established restaurant with a long history. It is owned by a famous scriptwriter, so I guess they can do business without any effort. However, I don't want to go to a restaurant with such a proprietress again. If the food was so good that it impressed me, I would have been able to put up with it, but the taste is just average. There is nothing that you can't eat only in this restaurant. I believe that food is something to be savored including the atmosphere of the restaurant, so in that sense, the level was quite low. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also messy and unhygienic. There were dishes lined up in the hallway that had been eaten by previous customers, stained menus, and colored papers arranged in such a messy manner that they took up half the width of the staircase. The restrooms are old-fashioned, small, and dark. It seems that many celebrities visit the restaurant, but I wonder if they are satisfied with the atmosphere and sanitation.... I feel very embarrassed as a Japanese if a foreigner comes to this restaurant and thinks that this is Japanese hospitality. Nowadays, there are many restaurants that do not have a long history but offer delicious food and courteous service. No more restaurants that are just old. I hope that there will not be more people who have bad experiences with this restaurant, so I have written a word of mouth.

最低な体験をしました。京都には…嵐山には他にも美味しくて親切な湯豆腐屋さんがあります。こちらを選ぶのは止めるべきです。 To foreigners, Don’t choose this restaurant. There are so many brilliant Yu-Dofu restaurants in Kyoto. 湯豆腐のコースでしたが、途中まで料理が出て、それ以降何も運ばれて来なくなりました。オーダー時「今日は混んでいるので料理の提供が遅くなる」と言われていたので、30分程静かに待っていました。すると、女将らしき年配女性が来て「1時間経ったので帰って下さい」と言いました。私よ...りも前に席につき食事をしていた人は他にも沢山いたのに、私にだけ声をかけてきました。料理が来ないから帰れなかったと伝えても、アルバイト店員に「本当？」と聞く始末。客の言う事が信じられないのか？そのアルバイトは何故女将に食事の提供が遅れた事を報告しなかったのか？その後の女将の言い訳は陳腐なものでした。「間違えました」の一点張り。間違いじゃない。コミュニケーションミスに客の選り好み。客を馬鹿にしている。料理の味も普通以下。普段、5つ星ホテルを利用しているので、舌には自信があります。サービスが何たるかも。京都に来てこの様な嫌な気持ちになったのは初めてです。何故あんな店に行列が出来るのか全く理解不能です。

I'm not a tofu fan, and this place had me smitten !! First of all, it's tucked in in a pleasant sunny area, we sat in a tatami area with lots of beautiful sunlight. It's everything tofu, so definitely a vegetarians heaven. You'd think it's a boring cuisine, same as I thought, but you're wrong. The w...hole variety they offer is just mind blowing, I recommend you try the tofu within the orange or was it yuzu. There are so many courses that you'll get so full, so I recommend you sightsee first then eat. The service is also outstanding
