“Best meal in Japan”

I don’t know how this doesn’t have more recent reviews. The food whilst expensive was excellent. The preparation has some real Theatre to it. The theatre is all from the chef and team and how they work together not because of some dry ice or other gimics. There was not a single course that I did...n’t love. Although you’d better like beef! The staff are lovely, from the head chef to the person who was waiting outside by the front door when we arrived. Just the right level of fun and seriousness at the right time

Delicious food, outstanding beef and incredible to watch it all prepared right in front of you. Super friendly staff who made my husband’s 50th birthday a wonderful event. We had a sneak preview of the newly installed bedroom apartment upstairs which looks spectacular. Would highly recommend.

Second visit to this restaurant. Food was absolutely amazing. Last course of rice with beef was outstanding. Beef is so flavorful and swims in your mouth. Service staff are patient, friendly and tried their best explaining the dishes. Chef is also gracious, having small talk with customers.

“DREAM KAISEKI STEAK DINING!”

i was able to secure a reservation to dine at Miyoshi on 11th April 2019 booked kindly by the concierge staff at Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto. The restaurant was able to accomodate me during the second seating at 9pm. I had spent a great deal of time walking the Gion district and even tried to find th...e restaurant before my dining date by relying on Google maps. somehow, I failed to locate the destination precisely. My thoughts was there was no restaurant name in English, only in Japanese being the very reason why I just walked past serveral times. So, on the night of the dinner experience, I hailed a taxi to do the task of bringing me to the place without mistake. He did find the restaurant without fuss. Like most quaint japanese restaurants, one has to open the sliding door, walk in and indicate your presence. The staff will lead you in to your seat. The restaurant was quieter at 9pm. Only counter diners, a group of 4 ( 2 couples) from Turkey and myself. I can understand why some diners write about being 'ignored'. Chef Ito will surely greet you as you are seated. It takes two to tango. Once you appreciate the skills he illustrates and you start to interact with him, he warms up and explains a whole lot of interesting things. A total of 9 courses is served in the set meal starting with a cosomme soup leading to the well boasted sashimi kobe beef tongue which surprised me in being that tender compared to the usual beef tongue served at toriyaki restaurants. I commended Chef Ito on the tongue delight and he added that one has to slice the tongue longitudinally rather than tranversely to maximise on the tenderness. I guess its cutting along the correct grain of the organ. The meal progresses to the beef of perfect doneness punctuated by the bamboo shoot, clam in clear beef soup - yummy! The next was a surprise - sharks fin and beef in hot boiling thick soup much like the chinese way but this was laden with the spicy flowers of the green japanese pepper plant. What a difference to the manner shark's fin is prepared the manner I am used to. Chef Ito explained the fin actually pairs very well with beef. I totally agree! Even my Burgundy Gevrey Chambertin synch with all the dishes served. Next the tomato edamame sorbet was an interesting interval cleanser followed by the delicately prepared shabu shabu beef. Then you get the real serving of the very tender beef to be eaten as it is or dipped in salt or sauce, spicy dips of your choice. Before the last item desert, it will be quite traditional to have rice ( steamed this time ) with beef in a clear stock. Mmmmm..... To end the meal is dessert - ice cream laced with Essence of Yquem. Very nice!! It was well worth the price I paid for the meal. We parted company diners and staff. Chef Ito will personally escort you to your taxi outside. We bade each other goodbye and I much appreciated Chef Ito for hosting me to such a delightful dinner. I later found out that Miyoshi is a one Michelin star restaurant in Kyoto.

I live in the middle of Kyoto but my friend living in HK choose this restaurant to invite me for dinner. Sat at the counter out of 10 seating. Ther are some table seating,too. But it is interesting to sit at the counter to see how the chef prepare all meat dishes in intensivery in front of you.
