It’s a small place that is only open from 5PM onwards and reservations is recommended. The beef they serve is authentic and so tender and delicious, much better than the highly commercialized kobe beef restaurants in Osaka and Kobe. Will definitely go back when I return to Kobe.

Avoid this Restaurant by all means! We tried to book for a table for 5 person for my family and even spoke to the person in Japanese. We got rejected because they claim we have problem communicating and I was shocked because the person who spoke to us can even speak English! What an attitude from th...is restaurant!

My husband and I wanted to try the original kobe beef. But we were worried on falling in tourist traps. There were so many restaurants in kobe offering kobe beef. After some thorough research we decided to try Dai Ei for their good reviews in Japanese websites. To our surprise Kobe beef is THAT Amaz...ing! It melts in your mouth and the taste is so indescribable. Our experience eating at this litte izakaya restaurant was so memorable. Its simple dining but so special. Thank you Daiei. Worth the walk going all the way for the beef!

The place is very local but becoming popular. Don’t expect to be in a fancy fine dining teppanyaki restaurant because this is the opposite. It has a very local neighbourhood dining atmosphere and run by the Takagi family. They have been doing this for many many years and you can see from the floori...ng that they started as a smaller place and just expanded to the old shop next door. They have a variety of dishes but their signature is Kobe Beef of different variety and prices. We typically get the A5 beef which is good value with garlic fried rice and some yakisoba. Their curry is also very good.

Beware they don't take foreigner bookings, as it seems that too many tourists have stood them up in the past. If you can get a Japanese friend to make the reservation, MAKE SURE YOU SHOW UP! Kobe beef is obviously amazing, and if you are getting that kind of grade of meat, most restaurants that serv...e it will do. They won't invest in such a caliber of beef and not know how to cook them. That said, Daiei's price is amazing, at 4000 yen for 200g, that is unheard of cheap for kobe beef. If you could get a reservation there do yourself a favor and try the best beef in the world.
