Michelin suggests this is a soba restaurant, and it is, but it is more. We had the Chef's Omakase Special, and it was superb. The meal ended with excellent soba, but the remaining dozen-odd courses were typical seasonal kaiseki, wonderfully executed and as good as any kaiseki meal we've had in Kyoto.... The service was kind and attentive, and the restaurant serves excellent sake and beer made for it (as well as other sake and beer). The menu also features several other soba sets that appeared to feature some of the kaiseki courses and were less expensive. We can't recommend Itsutsu too highly.

Very fresh food. Soba noddles and tempura tried. very neat frying oil. The atmosphere was refined with a bar and 3 small tables. Although the bar and the walls are in clean japanese decoration the chairs were vintage danish; and that is a great combination. Perfect after visiting the Datokuji temple... complex.
