Wonderful Kaiseki dinner at this small restaurant (less than 10 seats at a counter, plus a couple of tables on the floor). Run by a friendly and engaging husband and wife team (limited English) plus a couple of staff. Delicious seafood-focused seasonal menu, very fairly priced considering the many... wonderful courses. You should reserve in advance (may need to go through your hotel to do so), as it’s a small place and they buy fresh fish and vegetables for the day based on who’s coming.

We just returned to Ookini for a 2nd time. Its a 20 minute taxi from JR Station. We had an omakase meal and everything was delicious and well paced. It's a small restaurant and intimate. We spoke with other diners and that added to the fun. Price was about $180 for the 2 of us.

What an outstanding evening we had in your restaurant. From the moment we entered to your welcoming us in song !, your food is an art, every dish exquisite, heavenly and so beautifully presented. And to teaching us the art of drinking sake!! To your beautiful wife Okami-san, your attention to detail... and service was beyond. And to ending the meal with a beautiful rendition of O Sole Mio!!! We thank you. Order the owner recommended course- you will be doing yourself a favour. Enjoy!!!

This is a very small neighborhood sushi restaurant. Steps from Kyoto’s fish market you will have the experience of the freshest fish available. The owner is an incredible chef and entrepreneur who sings opera. If you do not speak Japanese have the hotel concierge order Kaiseki for your group. Expe...ct a memorable evening.
