My wife and I had a truly wonderful dinner experience here. The food was top-notch. Really a stand-out among the restaurants at which we ate when vacationing in Kyoto and Tokyo, and that is saying a lot as food standards here are quite high. The restaurant is hidden in the atmospheric back streets o...f Kyoto's Gion district. It is a lovely area in which to walk in the evening, and the place itself is cozy and intimate. You may need help finding it. There are spots for eight people per seating, and you get a front-row experience as a master craftsman orchestrates and prepares your meal. The service and attention to detail was fantastic. We left all smiles, and will definitely return next time we are in Kyoto.

8 seats at the chef’s counter and our party of 4 were treated to a spectacular dinner and experience. 2 hours, 8 courses, 2 bottles of saki later and we walked out from one of the finest meals appreciated by admitted world traveling foodies. Chef accommodated our need for one gluten-free and one n...o red meat guests perfectly. Chef and his assistant provided English translation on entrees, ingredients and preparation techniques when we inquired. Bonita, eel and shrimp along with untold others garnish, spices and ingredients were perfection. Highly recommended.

A fantastic experience in this very small restaurant in Higashiyama. Just 8 seats, I had to book through my hotel since there is no other way for non-Japanese customers. They offer you 10-11 small lovely dishes of Kaiseki cuisine, with no frills: 3-4 ingredients maximum per dish, extremely fresh fis...h, and outstanding sauces matching (e.g., the fish with umeboshi sauce, or the abalone with a sauce made of its liver and soy sauce). Excellent sashimi and sushi, and fantastic dashi. The owner and the helper are fantastic, despite not speaking English (almost at all). They have contagious smiles. Do not expect those fancy European-America Michelin starred restaurants, here you won't find the wine paper nor a dessert closing the dinner. Accept this conditions and what you'll eat (there is no English menu) and enjoy the experience.
