“Best Unagi”
While visiting Nagoya, our hotel, the Marriott, recommended this hitsumabushi unagi restaurant. This restaurant is in a very convenient location as it is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and Nagoya train station. We ordered the unagi and WOW, what a delicious meal! We never had unagi prepared this wa...y. There is a 3 step process to enjoy the unagi the right way. We didn’t speak or read Japanese. A very kind male server asked us if we knew how to eat the unagi to enjoy the meal more. He took the time to demonstrate what the 3 step process was and was very helpful throughout our meal. The food and the service at this restaurant location is superb. If you are in the area of the Nagoya Station and are looking for a great meal, eat at the Shirakawa Meieki Hitsumabushi branch. The staff is helpful and efficient and the food taste great! You will not be disappointed.

“Crispy grilled eel Nagoya style”
A short stay at Nagoya revealed this famous eel restaurant which has several branches. We chose this as it was 5 minutes from Marriott Nagoya. ( great choice to stay btw) Please make reservations to avoid queuing. We were quickly ushered to a private room. Service was friendly and we settled to t...ry the super deluxe hitsumabushi, deluxe, and Mabushi bowl. The food arrived in order of importance. The eel was nicely grilled with enough charring to ensure a crisp edge and flavor. The sauce was complementary to the chewy rice and did not have the mango sweetness to it. All served with pickles. Extremely satisfying as you end the meal by pouring the tea over the rice and eel and seasoning with condiments. Must try whilst in Nagoya.
