Not sure how other have rated 5 stars. The decor was ordinary, loads of fish on the wall, and “vinyl” table cloth?!? I want A5 Hida steak in french style, hence was the main reason for my visit (after reading mix reviews of mainly 5*) . Honestly my steak was okay, not the French meal I expect...ed. I normally don’t enjoy giving negative reviews, but don’t want fellow travelers expecting something amazing either. My overall experience was definitely not a French restaurant. Unfortunately they accept family with young children. So my experience was poor having to listen to a child being very loud the entire meal. I left as quickly as I can. Don’t expect quite or romantic.

4 very experienced travellers really enjoyed this French style restaurant Not the cheapest but good value. You build your choice of main course into various set menus for starters and dessert. Wide choice of Japanese and European food. Wines inevitably pricey and make sure they are not past their se...ll by date. Dine early as they close at 20.30. Staff are friendly,efficient and helpful.

Totally unreliable of this restaurant … Have made a reservation in person on Oct 23 for dinner Oct 24 which is the last night of our stay in takayama. Really shocked it did not open upon we arrived on time at 6pm. The restaurant definitely serves customer badly without any informing us in advance! I...t made us wandering around the town to search other restaurants during peak hours with high traffic of tourists everywhere! For this bad experience, we would complain the restaurant directly as well as to takayama tourist board to reflect our extreme dissatisfaction!

We booked Le midi through our excellent hotel Oyado Koto No Yume, with fantastic service, after reading the recommendations on tripadvisor. We know that Takayama is all about the unbelievable Hilda Beef, a great competitor to Kobe Beef, and wherever we ate the produce would be fantastic. Thus we ...were after the fantastic produce in a restaurant with superb service and a charming ambience. Le MIDI seemed the perfect choice. How we were wrong. Firstly the menus were so confusing, 5 different pieces of laminated menus, which google translate described the Japanese exactly as the restaurant had written in English, so it must be confusing for the Japanese too, so we hoped for a good discussion with the waiter. Unfortunately not, we ordered and then saw the results and thankfully the waiter serving our wine managed to change my order - the rose steak looked like a piece of “jerk” just millimetres thick, - so quickly back to the A5 sirloin thankfully my wife had also ordered. No advice at all. Vivino helped us choose a great wine, not the waiter, and then we were surprised to find out all the extras we got!!! The Asparagus??? (That’s what we think it was) Soup was superb, the main course superb meat, just melted and the final ice cream ok. But we could have got that in most places in Takayama. We saw that they had copies of the Michelin guide I guess from times when they featured, no way would they now. We even had to walk up to the pay area after waiting a long time for our “cheque”, to pay. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. We went from Sakurajaya the night before - absolutely brilliant - great produce, great tastes, great service, great knowledge, great ambiance - to this which almost felt like a chain restaurant - so sad and a waste of money. I rarely write negative reviews as a very small business myself, but my wife and I were so disappointed when if only the restaurant had done what they easily could have done - simple service - it could have been so much better. Please support other small restaurants.

Very casual fine dining restaurant! Was strolling by and saw they had hida beef, which is a ‘must’ in takayama. It did not disappoint at all!! Great service as well, unique interior as well. Try the Sukune Kabocha Pudding, to die for!!!
