“Mediocre food”
My husband and ate at this restaurant tonight. There is a menu in English and we chose a prix fixe meal, a small assortment of sashimi and the crab risotto. The bill, including a beer and 375Ml of wine cost 85 Y. We have had tasty, high quality food in many restaurants on this trip but this was not... one of them. The rice dish was lukewarrm, the sashimi was tasteless, the miso soup had mushrooms which we enjoyed and a flavorful broth and the crab risotto was soupy but full of crab.A bit of pepper might have enhanced the flavor. Would not return.

“If you are serious food lover but don't have enough time, this is the restaurant”
Only 5min walk from Kanazawa station. This restaurant serves Japanese Cuisine cooked with local fresh seafood and vegetables by certified chef who is specialised in Kaga local technique. If you would like to have Kaiseki (full course), you need to book a couple days in advance, they prepared private... room for us (2) There are also mini version at lunch time, which is around 4000yen. Some food is seasonal. Best to ask them directly.

“Interesting, but expensive”
It is a little tucked away, with very little English spoken. We shared an individual room with another table of people, which seemed a little awkward, as there is no music or convivial atmosphere. The only noise is hushed talking, as the other table can hear quite clearly, any conversation, punctuat...ed by polite staff who open and close screen doors behind them as each dish is delivered. The specialty crab kaiseki was tasty enough, but not incredible, considering the ¥6600/head cost. Tempura crab, for example, overwhelms the crab flavour. They cut the shell beautifully before table roasting, but there was no light sauce or interesting accompaniment to go with the roasted crab. The Kaga cuisine dishes like jibuni were nice, but subtleties lost in translation. Unfortunately, I could not relax fully due to the silence in the room and it was unsatisfying, not being able to understand their gracious explanations.

“Excellent Kaga Cuisine !”
Restaurant has no English signage.Directions : From Kanazawa train station , walk past the Forus mall ,continue to walk straight pass a crossing and then continue to a traffic light .Cross the road at the traffic light and turn left.Walk a few feet and turn right into a side road, the restaurant is... immediately ahead at your left. We were greeted by a lady who speaks a little English but sufficient to communicate.We had to take off our shoes and wear the slippers to a room.Room is traditional in that you seat on the mat and place your feet under the table. (Off course we later had difficulty in getting up ! It is an art which I had not mastered!). Tea and towel were provided immediately.Then you would be asked whether you wish to order a drink ( drink menu is available in English ).An English menu is then given to you.We ordered Chirihama sets which costs Yen 5800 per set.Course is served as follows : Appetizer , Hassun, Soup ,Sashimi Assortment ,Grilled fish , Jibuni,Kanazawa Specialty , Fried food ,Vinegar-ed food, Risotto, Pickled Vegetables and finally dessert.I ordered Hasu-mushi another Kanazawa specialty as addition to taste what it is like. The entire course took about more than an hour .Food presentation was very good and was an art to appreciate ! Suffice to say that the lunch was great ! In one go I had tasted most of Kanazawa's traditional Kaga cuisine. Service was personal and excellent .

“Refined Traditional Local Cuisine”
Very close to the station but tucked away in a side road. No English sign board but can be located under English name in google map. A more traditional type of Japanese restaurant (low tables and shoes have to be removed). Little bit of English spoken but not much. Fortunately they have English menu...s. Couldn’t get a sense of how large it was because the tables were in separate rooms. They serve kaseiki ( multi course set dinner ) but we specifically wanted to try the Kaga ryori (traditional local cuisine such as Jibuni ( duck in broth ) hasu-mushi ( ( steamed minced lotus root ) and Gori kara-age ( deep fried tiny fresh water fish ). Very nicely presented and obviously more refined versions ( we had tried Jibuni at a small eatery outside Kenrokuen garden). Very happy to find this place which was nearby our hotel and we enjoyed our meal.
