Not far from Sendai Station (3 minutes), which also has its own restaurant, is the main Dateno Gyutan venue, with reasonable prices, ample choice - non-meat eaters welcome, and cow tongue to die for (grilled and seasoned, of course). Staff were friendly and service fast.

Very delicious. You must try!! You can even buy ox younger package back home but it will expire in a day, so the best way is to have it within a day.

A must try for extra thick cut beef tongue set at ¥2,150 - beef lovers will definitely love it. We also order Omugi beef steak, this dish is too well done.

It's beef tongue. I'd never had it before.I'd call it salty meaty goodness. I think it tastes similar to sirloin. A colleague says more like brisket. Either way, it was attractive in both taste and presentation. The place was jammed with customers. And yet I was served quickly. The meat was cooked p...erfectly medium rare to my taste. The barley rice combination and soup served with were equally good. Go enjoy. It's not gourmet food. Just really good.

Date no Gyuutan specializes in beef tongue. You can either get a teishoku (set meal) with the standard gyutan, rice and soup, or you can order a variety of small dishes to share. We did the latter, and it was pretty good. We had a vegetable stick dish with a miso/gyutan dip. Tankatsu, which is gyuu...tan served in a deep fried tonkatsu-style. Cured gyuutan. Regular Japanese gyuutan. Gyuutan in tsukune sticks. It was a great way for gyuutan newbies to become familiar with the dish in a lot of different ways. I have had better gyuutan, though, at the yatai in Hakata. And the gyuutan you can get at a Tohoku-style restaurant in Tokyo is more or less the same quality as here. But for gyuutan beginners, this is a pretty good place to start, since you can try it out in so many different ways.
