TEPPAN・KU‐YA ～テッパンクウヤ～

This is a really small restaurant located a little over a block east of the main train station. They serve Chiya beef, which is also a form of Waygu but not as globally-famous as Kobe beef. It's also not as expensive as Kobe, but with the same high-grade marbling. I ordered a 200g steak. As it c...ustom, it was presented to me for inspection, and the fat lines were so creamy it looked like somebody has spilled milk on the meat. The finished product was pre-sliced, cooked medium rare, and served with a few of condiments: salt, wasabi, red better, soy sauce, and garlic flakes. Absolutely delicious. It was as tender as any steak I'd had to that point, with a rather light taste to it. And try the meat with the garnishes--my favourite was a bit of fresh wasabi on the meat. It really made it pop! The garlic and salt also go very well with the meat. I also had an order of takoyaki, fried octopus fritters. These were different than what I was used to. It was one massive hunk of octopus inside, with batter around it, not smaller pieces of chopped octopus mixed in the batter. I was rather disappointed in them. Service was very nice and efficient, even if the staff really didn't speak much English. They did have a menu in English, so that facilitated my ordering. For a top-tier steak, this was a great value as well. Although it's not the same full meal presentation as a Kobe steakhouse, it was about 1/6 the price. I would say if you are in Japan it is worth stopping in Okayama JUST to eat at this restaurant. The steak is that good.

We had the evening set menu which offers samples of local cuisine. It was outstanding. Great value, exceptionally effective staff. Can’t recommend this venue highly enough.

Excellent food. Good relaxed atmosphere. Sensible wine list. Lovely staff. Easy to find on ground floor on the Main Street.

It’s a small restaurant but be prepared for a big impact. The atmosphere is great, the staff very friendly and the food in our opinion very very good. We went with the Dinner course menu and everything was great with the highlight being the chiya beef! Thanks for the great evening!

Super cute restaurant on the Main Street in Okayama only 5 mins walk from the station. Menu is limited but to be honest you really only need to try the scallops and the beef as they are both excellent. Scallops translucent and sweet. Steak cooked medium rare. Not melt in the mouth, but the flavour i...s amazing and comes with a variety of seasonings…. So mix and match. The service was a bit slow but we had a very drinkable bottle of Spanish red wine (excellent price) to keep us going. The staff were lovely and just and all round great place to eat and drink. I’m glad we booked!
