spice cafe coyote＜スパイスカフェコヨーテ＞

We have just made a trip to 千光寺 and were walking back along the Onomichi arcade when we dropped by here for a break. In fact wifely has also heard about this café from a You Tuber so we decided to see/taste for ourselves. A layback feel arcade that differs from the busier ones in big cities (Hiros...hima, Osaka, Tenjin, Kumamoto etc) and many shops were closed. There are a few coffee shops scattered across the shotengai. Not a big unit and there a smaller neighbour unit for Takeaway.! Probably can seat just 10+ pax we gotten ourselves the bigger 4-setaer ones. Very retro and cosy feel which closely resembles the late-Showa setting. We ordered Ice Latte, hot Ginger Tea and a Flat white. Plus a thick honey bread toast that was great and just what we needed to refuel, as we are more thirsty than hungry. Good chill for us as we just descended from the Temple trail. The Café is noted or its good servings of meat, vegan options too. The food prep area can even be sighted from the main area, adds that homely feel for all.. The cozy atmosphere of the cafe, adorned with artistic decor chosen by the owner, adds to the dining experience. There’s good english menu with photos and the owner speaks good too. We had a good time and you may like to drop by too. 😊

We had a lovely meal at Coyote. Really enjoyed our chicken curries and the side dishes were very tasty too. Great to have lots of veges. Also really enjoyed the mango lassi. The owner/person who served us was very nice and the cafe was small and cozy. There are English menus (it’s a small menu) with... pictures.

Eventually, I enjoyed my curry and chai and the cosy room and decor of the cafe, but I almost walked out after the first ten minutes! The woman working there wasn't exactly welcoming when I entered - she just stared at me. I live in Japan, so was expecting her to greet me first. She then tried to ge...t me to sit down before I had had a chance to finish enquiring whether the vegetable curry was meat-free (you never know in Japan!) I got taken past the main restaurant - only one Japanese customer - and got seated in a tiny room at the back. The other table was covered in vegetables, as was the adjoining kitchenette. I felt like I'd been put in the staff quarters! The woman then started picking up, sorting and chopping all the vegetables. I waited for my order to be taken in vain and my several "Sumimasen!"s went unacknowledged as the woman went back in to the main cafe! I was feeling a bit sensitive and like I was being treated this way because I was a foreigner and was not deemed fit to have my order taken so I was about to get up and leave, when, suddenly a vegetable curry that I was not aware I had actually ordered was laid before me! I was then able to order a chai and enjoy both in the now tidy little back room! My Japanese is more than good enough for situations like this, so I think it was a combination of her not being the actual owner and maybe being a little hard of hearing. She gave me a friendly enough send off, so who knows!

We renter a bike in the arcade just 5m from the coffe so i sat after the day to get some food and a hot ginger tea. The honey bread toast was great and just what i needed to refuel! Good atmosphere cosy!
