While in Kobe, after a long day of touring Nara, our group decided on sushi for dinner. A good Sushi restaurant was a bit hard to find as most of the highly rated places on TA specialized in Kobe beef. Uwo Sei was highly recommended so we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. Go...od selection of nigiri sushi not overloaded with rice. Restaurant was a bit hard to find as their sign is only in Japanese (google translate helped to confirm we were in the right place). It is a small place and we did not have a reservation. There is a clipboard in front (again, no English). You out your name and number in your party and select bar or table and when things are ready they will bring you in. Everything was quite good, including the service. Bill for 6 was ~ ¥16,000.

Holy crap. This restaurant was one of my best finds for this trip. You wouldn’t think to have sushi in Kobe because… well, Kobe beef. But I have to be honest, the sushi from this restaurant blew my Kobe beef (in Kobe) experience out of the water. The restaurant itself doesn’t look like anything sp...ectacular and the service wasn’t anything to write home about but the sushi… wow. We decided against the lunch set because we wanted to try some of the more “obscure” items that we have a hard time finding back home, such as herring roe on kelp, crab paste, and white geoduck. That being said, in our à la carte order, we did include some more “traditional” items too , like the California roll and grilled eel. They were all delicious. I mean, there were some we liked more than others but we really didn’t expect all of them to be so good. Even the seemingly unremarkable California roll was mind-blowing. Was that real crab in there?? I think so. For the record, that and the salmon skin nigiri were my two favourites. We also didn’t expect them to be as generous as they were with the main ingredients (i.e. the filling? the fish?), having experienced way too many restaurants that gave an excessive amount of rice vs. the main ingredient. I have never experienced so much of the main ingredient on my nigiris before - the ratio was almost 2:1 ingredient to rice. Not that I’m complaining. I am 100% on board with every sushi restaurant doing this. And it was relatively inexpensive too - about ¥3100/person and we were really pigging out! It would probably cost less if you ordered the lunch set. If you’re in the area and are a fan of nigiri sushi with not a lot of rice, I highly recommend checking out this restaurant! It’s a real bang for your buck.

The sushi was delicious and all the ingredients felt super fresh. I got to try a variety of things and the prices were very reasonable for the quality (paid around 2.000 yen for what is seen in the photos). Arrived around 7pm on a Wednesday and it was quite busy, however I quickly got a seat at the ...bar. They brought me a sushi menu in English which was extremely helpful, and the waiters were also very nice and helped me with my order. There seemed to be menus for other dishes that were not available in English. I could've probably asked, but since it was pretty crowded the waiters were in a bit of a rush. It was a great experience and I definitely enjoyed it.

i sat at the bar and was there before it got full but the service was perfect, quick courteous and very professional. I tried this place and liked it so much that I came here 3 times in my week I was in Kobe. The prices are perfectly inline with the quality, ie not cheap but worth the premium.

For the price you get to experience quite a variety of sushi here. The set I ordered included sea urchin, yellow tail, tuna, unagi, and more. Including a bottle of beer I spent around 1800 yen. The sushi is not the most delicately assembled, but the folks who prepare it are generous with the fish an...d they taste very fresh. Highly recommend.
