Kotoshi

We were looking for somewhere on pontocho street and this caught our attention. They took us quickly with no reservation. Hot pot was fantastic!

Not sure why this restaurant has such a poor Trip Advisor rating - we just happened upon it whilst exploring Pontocho Alley and had a superb dinner! The service was friendly and extremely helpful, including staff advising you how to eat the food if you weren't sure. The suki-yaki was very very good ...indeed! Menus were in English and staff spoke some English too. Yes it's not cheap but it's not overpriced for the standard of both food and service.

Was in Pontocho alley to look around and have dinner. Was suppose to go to a different restaurant but they were full so we walked around and found this place. They had outside seating which I wanted and they serve sukiyaki. The place was not very big and the hallway going to the seating area was nar...row. There was our waitress who was patient with us and spoke in English explaining the menu. She was also handling a big group of Spaniards in the table next door. I wish I got her name. The food we ordered came out pretty quickly and they were delicious. The view was great and the service was excellent.

We had such a lovely time at this restaurant, it really made our trip to Kyoto finish on such a high note. We are foodies and have eaten all around japan and the world and this experience exceeded all expectations especially considering the area due to a high tourist volume. The staff we so lovely a...nd friendly, they were extremely generous with there wine pours (we were nervous about ordering red wine in Kyoto, but it ended up being delish) George, one of the waiters ended up just leaving the bottle on the table for us at no extra cost! We had the sushimi, it’s was one of the best we have had in japan to date, the duck katsu, and the premium waygu beef suku yaki and it was superb! We were giggling at our seats about how good it was. Thank you for an amazing evening team! Awesome experience!

Strange this has a low rating on trip advisor. We stopped here for lunch. Menus are in English. We sat on the veranda looking over the river which was delightful. It was a hot day and the veranda was covered making it very comfortable. We had the grilled fish of the day and the chicken sukiyaki. Bot...h were excellent. You get 3 courses in the price, firstly we had tofu, salad and egg plant followed by the main courses and finally a cold light sorbet. Excellent. Staff were delightful. Service was quick. Our best meal in Kyoto.
