Umiza

We had been spoiled with excellent sushi while we had stayed in Tokyo a couple of days ago. This evening, we reached Hikome and went out to search for a place for dinner. The place we had in mind was overcrowded and the children rather wanted sushi, anyway. So when we found Umiza, we went in. The ...interior did strike us as rather tasteful, with the cooks working two counters along the centre and low lying tables in niches at one side. This is where we took our seats and studied the menu, to order a variety of nigiri sushi - though the place offers more, like sashimi, tempura and other choices. We had various selections and were impressed with the quality. The various cuts of tuna were particularly good. The salmon on the other hand failed to impress. I have never seen the idea of topping nigiri with mayonnaise to work and this was no exception. Surprisingly, the fried salmon also disappointed, tasting of not much at all. Everything else though was excellent and I would like to point out the scallop nigiri for another special praise. All in all, I'd certainly revist the place again.
