“Words fail me…in the best way possible”
Mind blowing tempura in the heart of Ginza. I’m not an expert on eating tempura in Japan but I eat a lot of good food and this meal blew me away. The shrimp we started with was so sweet and beautifully fried. Then we had a series of fish and vegetables. I opted for the largest menu (around 8000Y) an...d was not at all sorry to roll out the door very full. The clam they serve as part of that meal was sooo sweet and tender. The other things served along side were all delicious and gorgeously prepared - beautifully pickled radishes, a tuna sashimi starter, my kid’s miso soup… all excellent. Just please note: it’s as hard to find as people say if you don’t read Japanese. And there’s another restaurant of a similar name, which we started at. You can find it google maps but once we were there, nothing was in English and a very sweet man helped us find it ( we were standing in front of it abs didn’t know.) All part of the adventure. 😀

“Amazing food, personal attention”
We were looking for tempura and it came up first on TripAdvisor and we were close by... We had no idea it was Michelin starred or that people make reservations weeks in advance! We just happened to hit it at off peak hours and had to promise to not stay longer than 2 hours. No problem. And it was ...fabulous. We had a person with a fish allergy in our group and they couldn't have been more accommodating, coming up with inventive substitutions for the seafood items. Yes, it's expensive, but it was worth it. It's like having a private chef make you exquisite little dishes one at a time. Pay attention to the other reviews explaining how to find the elevator to get down to the basement level - it's not obvious to non-Japanese speakers.

“Surprise find, loved it”
My last night in Tokyo for business and lucky enough to have found this gem. Yes, it is hard to find, yes, it is in a basement and yes it was worth the short walk from the main road. There are only 16 seats, 12 of them are at the bar. There are set menus (which I’ve found to be common in Tokyo) and ...the food was delicious. They speak enough English to walk you through the process of which salt to use and what things are. Try it all.

“Perfect tempura, sheathed in lacey-thin batter, in an intimate setting”
This was my favorite meal during a week in Japan. You sit at a long counter and the tempura is prepared one piece at a time, placed on your plate immediately while it’s optimally crispy and hot. The batter is lacey thin. Service was cheerful and the whole atmosphere was jolly, unpretentious and i...ntimate - a charming place but not really suitable for families or big groups. Finding the place was a challenge as Google maps brings you to a side street where you can’t really discern any sign for the restaurant. After doubling back we used Googel translate to decipher the sign by the elevator in the doorway, took the lift to the basement, and we were lucky enough that they had place for us ( there are 12 chairs at the counter, and a small table for 4 in a corner). We took the simplest set menu, with 2 drinks each ( beer and sake) and paid 77euro for 2 persons.

“Just go somewhere else for dinner or you will regret it :(”
We shoud have left as soon as we discovered tariffs applied but it was late and we were tired... We should have ! For dinner they only have fix set menus and you are obliged to take additionnal starter (don't even know if it's legal...) We ended up paying over 36000 for 4 pax and we didn't take any ...desert. Quality was Ok but definitely not enough to justify this pricing. Apparently pricing is more affordable for lunch, if you still wanna try
