Hinokizaka

I visited Hinokizaka Teppan at The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo with friends during our trip to Japan. I had been wanting to experience authentic teppanyaki in Japan, and this restaurant truly exceeded every expectation! Although the restaurant was a bit difficult to find within the hotel at first, the staff... were incredibly helpful. They personally came to guide us and made sure we arrived comfortably, which immediately set the tone for the warm and thoughtful hospitality that followed. The food was outstanding from beginning to end. I especially enjoyed the seasonal ingredients and beautiful presentations. One of the biggest highlights for me was the Nasu eggplant. It was absolutely incredible, far beyond what I expected, and honestly the best vegetable I’ve ever had. The steak was excellent, but the Kobe beef center tenderloin was on another level - perfectly cooked, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. I also loved that the beef was served with a variety of seasonings; the fresh seasoned black pepper was especially delicious and brought out the flavor beautifully. Our chef Mr Furuya, was very friendly and fun to talk with, which made the experience even more special. Watching the precision and artistry of his cooking while enjoying great conversation added so much to the evening and created an atmosphere that felt both refined and relaxed at the same time. Our server Kota was also incredibly kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. The sake pairing they recommended was absolutely perfect for the menu. As someone who enjoys sake, I really appreciated how each selection enhanced the flavors of the dishes and elevated the overall experience. Overall, Hinokizaka Teppan delivered an exceptional dining experience with outstanding food, a welcoming yet elegant atmosphere, and genuine hospitality. I would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo, especially those looking for a top-tier teppanyaki experience.

Dining under the care of Sous Chef Shinji Furuya was extraordinary. From the moment we were seated, it we were embarking on journey through the art of Japanese cuisine. Chef Furuya didn’t just prepare food. Even the smallest elements—were masterfully deliberate. It was culinary experience elevated ...to art. We left with a sense of deep gratitude—not only for the food, but for the thought, respect, and soul poured into every moment. It was, truly, one of the most extraordinary dining experiences we’ve ever had.

We ate at the teppanyaki section of the restaurant. The food was outstanding. We had the tasting menu which allowed us to try a variety of foods, paired with many different accompaniments. This is a dining experience where you sit opposite the chef who prepares your meal. The ambiance is elegant..., matching the presentation for each dish. Our chef, Shinji Furuya, was outstanding, explains everything he did, answering all of our questions and educating us about Japanese cuisine. Shinji couldn’t have been more accommodating. He made an exceptional meal unforgettable.

Strange experience. Booked the restaurant the day of reservation and they couldn’t get me in. I asked again and they managed to fit me in. Restaurant was not busy at all. 5 people at sushi bar. Food was outstanding. Service for this level of restaurant was great with chefs, poor with service staff. ...If you had leftover food, they simply left it. If you dropped anything, staff left it on bar. Smallest glass of wine I have ever been served. Very nice restaurant with high quality of food but eating solo in an empty restaurant with no English is not a great travel experience.
