“Great Yakiniku, prime location and great service!”
I went to this place for dinner alone 3 nights in a row so basically I had tried almost everything i would like on their menu. Hours: 5pm to 11:30pm (last order: 11:00pm) Budget per person: 4,000 yen (without alcohol) Seats: 14 (counter) + 34 (table) Reservation: Highly recommended and counter is ...great for people watching and interaction with chefs! Although the restaurant wasn't busy during the week, reservation gives the staff heads up to polish up their english and adjust their service for foreigners. TIP: be sure to show up on time for your reservation (5-10 mins before reservation time is deal) and have your hotel info ready upon making reservation with the restaurant. Food: Featuring Kagoshima A4 or above beef (the prefecture just recently won the best national wagyu beef award in Japan over Miyazaki!!), local chicken and premium pork. They are all fresh, delicious and come with great sauce pairings. There are salad, vegetable and rice dishes as well. Ordering: Buying drinks and food per person matching/exceeding the above budget guidance is encouraged. The restaurant is small located in prime spot, it is considered to be rude to camp there. (I saw some Japanese couples left within an hour after they decided not to order more food) I always started off with 1 drink, 1 assorted meat set and 1 salad/veggie option, then gradually added extra items or drinks until I was full. TIP: It is unnecessary to order too much food in each round and some food option can be ordered by `half order' (for solo diner) although the price isn't equally 50% off. No box for leftover is allowed while you are expected to finish all the food ordered. Service: English menu is available but it is about 1/3 to 1/4 of the full Japanese menu. If you have particular cut you would like, better show the pics to the staff. They generally speak very limited english but they are very friendly and tried their best to explain to me about the sauce and did some recommendations on second or third dinners. The staff to patrons ratio is very high: 6 chefs + 6 staff to 48 patrons (fully occupied), service is very attentive and no long wait between orderings. The charcoal grill was always ready for me right before I showed up at the restaurant, therefore I can start grilling my meat/any food without any delay. Location: Right next to Kagoshima chuo station (west exit). It is a stand alone restaurant so it is impossible to miss . Counter area is Japanese style, meaning you have to take off your shoes to enter while the staff will keep yours in locker. IMO, counter is less crowded than table but all counter seat has no back support. I have been to Kagoshima City for 3 times and so far this place is my #1 choice for dinner.

“Excellent food!”
The full name of the place we went to is 'Teppanyaki Satsuma Horumonpo' and located at B1 of Solaris Hotel. Beef was excellent and delicious. A little pricey but well worth it. I'd go there again any time.
