“Excellent Food & Service”

We chose one of their set menus which included a series of courses in a French table d'hote style with a Japanese influence. We ordered wine by the glass and were presented with excellent options. The staff was very attentive and well trained. There was little English but that didn't cause too many ...issues. The restaurant has a good view of the station and surrounding buildings. The only criticism we would have is the level of the lighting which was not suitable for a fine dining room.

“A Wonderful Restaurant ”

Reviewed 18/Apr/2016

My wife and I were invited back to Kuwahara Kan to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, which is also where we held our reception. I want to say that up front first so that you know my experience with this restaurant is slightly different from the average customer but I think I can say enough t...o be of use for those of you reading this. Location: The restaurant is located on the 7th floor of the Kagoshima Central Terminal building located directly across the street from Kagoshima Chuo station. The location is extremely convenient for arriving by public transportation as the bullet trains, regular trains, trams, buses and taxis all make a stop at the station. Even the long distance highway bus center is at the ground floor of the same building. For those coming by car, parking is located behind the building. Interior: The layout is a simple floor plan that could be best described as a squared, instead of rounded, "C". Unless there is need for more room, such as a party, the back half is usually closed off leaving the floor plan in an "L" shape. In this pattern, the wall along your left as you enter the restaurant is decorated with synthetic flowers. Turning right into the longer rectangular space finds the open kitchen on the left. The table layout is not extremely spacious nor is it cramped. The big draw of this restaurant is the entire glass front wall which gives a great view of Kagoshima Chuo station and the surrounding buildings. From the vantage point of the seventh floor, the view is spectacular especially if you go to dinner. At night you can enjoy the illumination of the large Ferris wheel on top of the adjacent Amu shopping center. Service: The service really is top notch. The various staff members are quick to attend to the customers and are extremely professional. After seating us, one member quickly brought a cushion for my pregnant wife without us ever asking for such kindness. Each dish was explained to us upon serving and the moment we finished a plate it was quickly taken away to prepare for the next course. Even though we had not been there for a year, all the staff remembered us and we had a nice conversation with them. You never get the feeling that they are being insincere, they come off as truly personable people. Cuisine: I cannot say enough good things about the food. Everything we have eaten there, from multiple dinners and even a breakfast, has been absolutely delicious. The menu changes a bit with the seasons and it is always a pleasure to eat there. As it is French dining, the portions are small as you would expect. The price is also a little high but this, too, is in line with high quality French cuisine. There are less expensive courses on the menu and they are just as delicious as the more expensive dishes. However, it is well worth trying the more expensive courses if it is in your budget. To be able to enjoy the exquisite ingredients and dishes found in the pricier courses is a culinary delight. Kuwahara Kan is a truly wonderful restaurant. Every time I finish a meal there I begin thinking about when I will get to visit again. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it particularly for dinner.
