“One of the best Curry places I have tried!”
This is an old style curry place in the middle of the Kawabata shotengai. Their specialty is the combustion curry which comes smothered with cheese. They also have seasonal curries -- I tried the oyster curry and it was delicious. The surprise was the curry bread -- they bake it on premise and it... has their unique curry filling. Really good!

“Well located - and a must-have for Japanese curry enthusiasts”
This restaurant, though admittedly too easy to walk by, is well situated between Nakasu Kawabata Station and the shrines/temples neighbourhood around Gion Station. Apparently gratin curry is a local variation of Japanese curry, and to be frank, the curry here at Curry Hompo is excellent. Most of the... dishes (basically curry with beef or chicken or ebi) are in the 800 to 1000 yen range. Servers bring pitchers of water to the table, and as mentioned in previous reviews, there are English menus. Full marks for value, taste, and friendly service. Don't forget to buy the omiyagi (souvenir) edition of the gratin curry -- available for 500 yen a pack!

“Family worn out so went for a walk ”
I loved the chilli, great meal friendly service with a smile. English menus as well. Warning I love hot food and tried to order the hottest which is 5 out of 5 and got talked down to a 3 which was plenty hot.

“Combustion Curry!”
Great for a quick lunch - their trademark "combustion curry" is a domburi-style metal-bowl of rice covered with curry (and egg and cheese!) cooked under the grill. Hot and delicious. It's on the main "avenue" through the Kamikawabata Machi market (you'll walk right past it if you walk down the mar...ket from the Nakasu Kawabata Station toward Kushida-jinja.
