“Excellent tempura but a soulless place to eat...”
Of course should take pride of place in any restaurant review... but the decor and ambience here was so dull that it rather ruined the decent food. In Japan, many well-thought-of restaurants are located in Dept Stores like this one... but they really not our cup of tea, Not one for the scrap book...... Something of a (thankfully rare) mistake for us.

“Lots and Lots of tempura”
Went to Tsunahachi based on a friend's recommendation saying it was the best. It wasn't. The food was ok, not bad but just average. Ordered a set dinner. Was served lots of food and a good variety. Waitstaff could not communicate much in english. They provided an english menu.

“Great Tempura at reasonable price”
This is one of the best Tempura Restaurants in Tokyo. They have about 5 restaurants but this seems to be the most popular one for lunch. Besides the inside dining they also have a small bar section and take away. We went for a set menu including seasonal vegetables. A truly astounding experience. My... friend advises to go there early as the oil is then fresh but for me the oil and ingredients were sublime.

“Average food”
Felt that the tempura restaurant (8th floor of Keio Dept Store) was just average. Shrimp was quite small and if you are a slow eater, the batter becomes soft. Bill came up to about 2600 yen and given the choice of food in Shinjuku, will not come back.

“Very fine Japanese Tempura”
We knew this place had to be good when it came recommended - separately - by two Japanese friends who live in Tokyo. After staring confusingly at the menu for a while, we wisely decided to go look at the display in front of the store window of the different tempura dinners. Having this visual aid, ...we were able to easily select what we wanted. Since we are neither tempura snobs nor experts, we found the tempura here to be incredible light and non-greasy. The service was excellent and special care was given to delivering the tempura to you just at the right moment when it should be eaten and enjoyed. One advantage for choosing this location over some of their others is that there is a roof top garden where you have to go to smoke, but it´s large enough where you won´t be bothered if you don´t smoke, and the view of the city up there is very nice.
